Uplifting, emotive, and impassioned - Soulular's third EP released via Gravitas Recordings, "Heartblast", is an admirable exhibition of what bass music can be. Each song is a perfectly crafted blend of both beauty and groove, lending themselves as the soundtrack to both late night and early morning atmospheres. Always one to push his own boundaries, Jeff Laos shows off his years of study and practice throughout the seven track free/pay-what-you-want album. 

Starting strong, "Heartblaster" combines chopped vocals and a retro lead into a soothing yet bouncy package. "Touch" goes a bit deeper, boasting meticulous, psychedelic sound design. The rigid basslines in both "Existence" and "Icaro" give each track a hype feel without subtracting from the melodic elegance. Closing out the album is "Believer", a sultry tune filled with swaying arpeggiation and supple synth work.

In the last 12 months cult Anjunadeep favourite Croquet Club has earned radio support from the likes of Zane Lowe, Danny Howard, Rob Da Bank and Monki with his quirky brand of electronica, as well as glowing praise from Mixmag, Indie Shuffle, Clash and Line Of Best Fit for his recent Jacuzzi EP.

Heavily influenced by the likes of Air and Bonobo, the man behind the moniker, Frenchman Jeremy Villecourt provides his own vocals once again over the gorgeous rising harmonies of “Only You Can Tell”, the opening track from the recent iTunes Dance Chart topping compilation “Anjunadeep 06”. 

Atmospheric textures, crisp stripped back percussion and a warm guitar riff swirl beneath the gentle vocal refrain, in another showcase of Croquet Club’s unique and inventive style.

Having established a reputation for discovering new talent, it's not often that we get to collaborate with other artists and labels. Chapter 2 allows us the opportunity to reach beyond our own circle of emerging artists and work with exclusive material from others who have been getting us very excited recently.

As with Chapter 1, you will find no B-sides here!

Optimo Music's Golden Teacher is the best band to come from Glasgow in years! We've played host to their outstanding live shows on several occasions and continue to be impressed by their ability to weave their influences to form a unique sound of their own.

Usio's debut album last year on the stupendous Studio Barnhus label will remain a classic for many years to come. Made up of beautifully varied and consistent compositions, they have more on the way. We suggest keeping a watchful eye on them.

Linking us not only with the excellent Themes For Great Cities, but also our home from home, Salon des Amateurs in Dusseldorf, is resident Jan Shulte who presents probably our funkiest record yet under his Wolf Müller alias.

We enjoyed a particularly great year in Glasgow when the talented Oklo Gabon also lived there. Now back in his native Gothenburg, we were recently happy to discover that he's been proactive in the studio. Sometimes associated with the Discos Capablanca label, we're sure there will be more on the way under various new guises.

It's no secret that Cómeme are a source of inspiration around these parts. Sano is just one of many great artists who form the label and we're really chuffed to be able to include this demented delight which we first heard back on a Lena Willikens mix a few years ago.

Whilst the artists themselves are incredible, this release pays tribute to the labels they are typically found on and we suggest doing some more research if you like what you hear.

I was never the one to do e-mail collabs. Nothing beats having another person in the same room with you. You have the freedom to experiment and bounce ideas around and communicate on a much more personal level. With that being said it was a blessing creating with such a talented musician as Veld Dromen. A darwīš is a religious monk dedicating his entire existence to the advancement of faith and meditation. Although he believes in Allah, he can be described predominantly as a mystic. Refraining from any form of material wealth and even societal appreciation, holy enlightenment is his true aim.

After finishing up their semester at University, Nicolas and Jonas – or Parra for Cuva & Senoy – decided to pack all their gear into their camper and go on a road-trip down to the eastern coast of Spain.

The car filled with all kinds of gear, from synths to speakers, guitars, and percussions amongst other tools and toys, three creative weeks ensued, creating music with a view out to the sea.

While taking everything in and doing daily trips, the two were able to create enough song ideas in three weeks to spent the rest of the year at home in the studio to finish all arrangements and mixes.

Inspired by the Spanish way of life in a small and historically rich port town, a stark contrast to life Berlin, and soaking up diverse musical influences, the individual titles are highly personal and reflect on specific emotions or intimate experiences.

During the arrangement of the title-song, the percussion track was accidentally dragged to infinity, which resulted in a trance inducing meditative sound that gave them the idea for the title. Watching turkish dervish dancers while listening should therefore enhance the listening experience.
