Manchester based Pále, aka Leo Marcus, has made some serious waves this year, delicately blending spacious melodies with pounding low end to produce consistently forward thinking house music.

After dropping his superb Why’d You Even Say? EP on Fat! Records back in January, along with the brilliant Silverstair on Four40 and his ridiculously huge remix of Mak & Pasteman’s Jungle Juice Pále has not only showcased his impressive variety but also genuinely established himself as one of the most exciting youngsters around at the moment. 

This 3 track EP kicks off with Catacombs, which balances punchy bass stabs with ethereal vocal samples and skittering percussion to create undoubtedly one of Pále’s best tracks to date, something that manages to be fully dance-floor orientated whilst retaining a sense of blissful serenity. Oak Music opens with typically atmospheric pads and beautiful strings before falling into a void, the bassline pulsating ominously, accompanied by sparse clicks and an emotive melody before another breakdown of near-euphoric tranquility. The release is perfectly rounded off with Orchidea, a luscious sepia-tinted slow jam, or as Pále himself would describe it - “slow beats for tired feet.”

In a repeatedly rephrased metaphor of vinyl archaeologists digging for samples and re-constructing music from tiny pieces and fractions of long lost sounds, Weedy of 40 Winks is actually a rare example of this image being executed to perfection. His puzzling way of piecing together intricate beats, rich in details, breaks and variations, is rather analogous to surrealist art than to most of his fellow contemporary beat-smiths. On top he adds his own instrumentation to perfect these compositions, being like a conservator creating mosaics of rhythms, grooves and harmonies, giving the listeners imagination ample space to wander about.

When listening to "The Branches" it will stimulate diverse brain areas, creating short movies and stories in your mind's eye. From Soviet era hand-drawn animated fairy tales in winterly forrest-landscapes to narravites of urban struggle or even classical tales in dark and gloomy basement bars – let the record spin and your mental cinema flow. 

This album made it into the radio shows of Mary Anne Hobbs (XFM) as well as Gilles Peterson‘s “All Winners” show on BBC Radio 1, his personal list of favorites of the year 2011, alongside various other highly respected stations across the globe. 

For the 2012 winter season we decided to give "The Branches" a proper repress treatment, not only pressing a new batch for all our listeners that weren't able to acquire a copy yet but also spicing it up and making it a true collectors item for anyone that already owns a copy. 

Therefore, the – now gatefold – artwork / transparent 2LP vinyl version, originally drawn by Bioniq was colourized by Roman Pokrovsky and, besides everything being remastered and including new work from Long Arm himself, we also added a second vinyl with various remixes by on the one hand like-minded artists like Hidden Orchestra, Dday One and 40 Winks, with whom Long Arm also shares artistic relationships and friendships, and on the other hand more genre-overarching and experimental remixes from such acclaimed artists as Robag Wruhme, Sieren, Yoko Duo, Berry Weight, Empt and Speck from CYNE, which will surely make for a unique listening experience.

Following on from the success of their debut LP 'La Belle Vie' from earlier this year, the French duo have been busy in the studio producing La Beat Tape. 20 tracks deep, the release is aimed squarely at the DJs, with a succession of guaranteed party-starters. This is rounded out with some typically quirky interludes, jazzy beat excursions and blissed out trip hop.
Souleance are producer Fulgeance (Musique Large / One Handed Music) and DJ Soulist (What The Funk Paris?). Since releasing their debut EP (Le Monde) back in 2009, they have built a solid reputation for their idiosyncratic take on modern beats. With fans including Gilles Peterson, Danny Breaks, Lefto and Mr Thing, their debut album was the culmination of 3 years of beat-making, touring, partying and drinking too much Pimms. Whilst other producers would rest on their laurels after releasing their debut, Souleance got straight back into the studio to produce La Beat Tape - their sole aim to create tracks that they would DJ with themselves. The result is 20 tracks of pure dancefloor fire peppered with a smattering of chilled, lounge tracks in classic Souleance style.
Like any classic beat tape, variety is the key, and Souleance do not disappoint. La Beat Tape takes in heavy Turkish breaks (Sauce Samourai), Hammond funk (L'insouleance), tripped out western cinematics (Tout Doux), brooding jazz (Kipseli Street Interlude), Shadow-esque breaks (Strongest Love), Just Blaze-style horn-heavy hip hop (Como Estan Bitches), 80s synth-hop (Cocktail Time) and much much more.
The release is available as a budget-priced download with a limited edition 7" containing four tracks that we feel will be most useful for the DJs. With artwork by long-term collaborator Alice Dufay, it's sure to join their previous vinyl releases as a genuine collectors item.

I'm always pleasantly surprised by some of the feedback I get when I put out one of these albums... I mean, liking good music isn't exactly rocket science is it? Judging by some of the records I see changing hands for staggering sums of money though, it's maybe not as easy as it looks. Perhaps seeing past the rarity of a record and actually liking something for its beauty rather than its value is the key. Perhaps being broke is a good position to be in after all.
Whatever. I've said it before and I'll say it again; this album isn't about me showing off my "collection" (despite the use of the word "rare" in the title), it's simply my choice of as many good tracks as I can fit on a CD, most of which I hope you'll like as much as I do.
That said, there would be no point in filling a CD with tracks that are obvious or particularly easy to find. So rest assured, you've saved a few bob, not to mention the hassle of hiding parcels from your wife when the postman comes, by buying this album instead of the individual songs.
One CD is just straight up music (I've edited a few tracks of course, but that just makes them even more "DJ friendly"). the other is a "continuous disco mix" which basically means it's the same songs without gaps. So you can have a party and just mingle without worrying too much about the music. Assuming your guests like obscure disco music that is. I'm trying to avoid using the term "DJ mix" because it isn't really. I made the mistake of selecting tracks that don't easily blend together, whereas DJs, as we all know, select tracks based on how long and how tightly quantised the drum intro is. 
As an added bonus, all vinyl conversion was carried out by Andrew Pirie, Glasgow’s answer to David Mancuso, but younger. And taller. With mastering duties by Lynn Petrin of Ebony Cuts. Germany’s answer to Herb Powers. Except German.

Project: Mooncircle & Finest Ego have teamed up to establish a fresh new 12” producer series, entitled “Faces”. On every edition, you will find two different producers. Respectively, each producer will have their own record-side and unique cover artwork by the aspiring Bioniq, known for his surrealistic portraits, blending humans and technology.

On our fourth “Faces” edition we are featuring the two ascending artists @Lomovolokno and @Sieren, presumably the two most unknown so far. Originally hailing from Krasnodar, Russia and Bielefeld, Germany, one was inspired by naive childhood memories of imaginative creatures seen floating in the nighttime sky, while the other looks into an uncertain future that holds the anxiety of a fresh start but also the ever present risk of failure. The artwork takes these motifs and implements them in a vision of technological enhancements of human capacities and evolvement, forming a futuristic symbiosis that enables for synaesthetic senses heightened to an subatomic degree. But it is unsure, however, if these augmentations can actually expand our human experience or rather amplify our solitary existence and emotional void while traveling across fantastic worlds and the universal vacuum filling the space between.

Krasnodar, Russia: In the midst of grey soviet housing projects, a young boy enjoys playing and improvising his first little melodies on his parents piano. Always being inspired by the nature nearby the city - memories of peaceful springtime swimming sessions in the Black Sea come to mind – Lomovolokno grows up fascinated by machinery like samplers and the rapidly increasing possibilities of modern computers. Delving deeply into twisting melodies, building sounds and crossing notes leads his way to first field recordings resulting in an influx of elements ranging from waves of the sea, the wind, sand, crackling noises, banging and rustling becoming a part of his sound.

Sieren is the maiden name of Matthias Frick’s mother and also his current alias under which he started to release his first free tracks in 2011. Rumor has it that he has a dark secret history of producing experimental techno, albeit his love for UK influenced bass music existed for more than one handful of years. It was not until recently that he began to make the most of his love for field recording and experimental soundscaping and is now throwing his full force into music, while simultaneously finishing a university degree in computer science and design before moving from small town to métropole to follow a new set of challenges and advance to the next stage of his life.

Bioniq is an artwork designer, DJ and producer from St. Petersburg in cold Russia and Project: Mooncircle's special KGB agent. With his drawings he aims to create new horizons on paper and draws inspiration from historic tales, events of the present age but also possibilities the future might hold.

They’ll take you on a trip from the era of Bob James, Weather Report and Herbie Hancock, 80’s boogie to the future beat sound of today. Heavy analogue synth action and deep Moog basslines are omnipresent, keeping the lush Fender Rhodes sound in balance.

74 MILES AWAY’s first eponymous album was released on Melting Pot Music (2011) and featured collaborations with AHU, Miles Bonny & Carina Andersson (4 Hero). A first single from this album Same Dream Again was released on the infamous London-based label Brownswood.

Early 2013 this Belgian combo hit the studio again which resulted in this 8-track, fully instrumental album, powered by our longtime partners at Laid Back.
Eager to play and please, the band puts emphasis on their energetic live shows. And they are a real treat at the bar too, by the way.

Swedish DJ and producer Devastate dropped his first full length album “Movement/Silence” on BBE records back in 2010. Some noteworthy collaborations include: Masta Ace, Ed O.G, J-Ro (Alkaholiks), Reks, Akrobatik, Termanology and many others. You can also find him on Mellow Madness II (Wax Poetics), On Display (Soularp Records) and the “Movement/Mixes” funk series on BBE Records. 
 
For this particular release  in collaboration with Laid Back, Devastate sets out to remix the soul brother himself, Mr. Pete Rock. Reinterpreting “the king of beats” is never easy task but Dev takes on the 2006 underground classic ”Revenge” with great confidence. Devastate flips the beat, staying true to the original, with a classic production formula. Thumping drums, heavy baseline and signature turntable acrobatics. The result definitely leaves your head nodding. Devastate is paying homage to Pete and sums it up in the outro scratches - “You know a learned from the greatest, Pete Rock to Jay Dee, Diggin In The Crates”.

Pete Rock - Revenge Feat. Grap Luva (DJ Devastate Remix)

Today we celebrate the 63rd birthday of one of the most ingenious and influential artists of the late 20th century. Mr. Stevland, Hardaway Judkins a.k.a Stevie Wonder. Defining multi-talent in music field, with a vibrant career that has spanned over fifty years. Stevie’s achievements will without a doubt remain an inspiration for many generations to come.

To celebrate this day, DJ Devastate (Swedish DJ and producer) teams up with Fredrik Segerfalk (Analog Sweden) to offer an interpretation of Stevie’s most iconic song "Superstition”. The original track (released in October 1972) deals with the topic of superstitions and includes one of the most funky clavinet riffs of all time (played on the Hohner Clavinet C).

Devastate & Segerfalk reworks the track into a more moderns, rhythm based, bass-heavy anthem topped with some smooth Rhodes piano. The remix is a tribute to Stevie, reworked with respect, to honour the timeless original. Enjoy Devastate & Segerfalk’s production overhaul (it’s a free download).
