Behind the song —

My rendition of Ari Lennox’s “Pop”.

I love this song because its essence is so simple, yet passionate as fuck. Ari’s original version is so warm and raw, like being inside the cozy of your home with your fireplace and vinyl crackling, as you sip something good. You can hear the p’s popping against the mic when she says “pop this pussy”. You can sort of hear her every utterance as if she’s performing it live. The fact that the original version was released in that pure form is just the most beautiful thing to me. It was the perfect move for this song, since it’s about the intimacy of showing up as your full self with that special someone.

I captured that in my own way. My version has an atmosphere that’s a bit more open, as in outside, “hype”, and loud-ish, yet just as intimate and sweet as the original. You can be in your feels and know you’re safe there with both my cover and Ari’s OG. Very beautiful. The perfect sonic companion for Christmas romance. That’s what I had in mind. Although, it’s good for a lifetime of an “anytime” and “always” type of love.
