Back in the day, around '81/'82, Sister Nancy (Ophlin Russell-Myers) recorded a tune on the Stalag riddim - the seminal Bam Bam. Since then I've played it to death be it in clubs and pubs, at home, or in the car on a sunny Irish country road with the top down. 
Around 15 years ago a big beat remix turned up and went straight into my DJ bag often to be played with, instead of, or cut over the original. And that's all I've done here, put a big fuck off beat over Soom T's cut. Same riddim, fresh vocal, new generation. The circles and cycles of reggae and dancehall move ever far-ward. 

Ophlin Russell-Myers, meanwhile .. she's now an accountant in a bank .... pfft.

MOMENT IDEAL

Promising Crew est le premier sound system créé à Belle-Isle-en-Mer. C'est en 2001 que jehan, laurent et openness décident de se lancer dans l'aventure. Tous les trois passionnés de reggae, ils trouvent que cette musique n'est pas suffisamment représentée sur Belle-Isle et fondent le Promising Crew. Le reggae était encore peu répandu sur l'île et les sounds systems inexistants. Ils décident donc d'organiser des sound free sur les plages et dans les vallons sur un petit system pendant l'été. Durant l'hiver ils organisent également des sounds dans des bars de la région vannetaise. L'été suivant, Ils font venir Ganja Tree (arrivé depuis peu en France) dans une salle de Sauzon à Belle-Isle. En parallèles, ils continuent d'organiser des free et le public est de plus en plus présent. Au fur et à mesure de leurs expériences, ils instaurent un réel mouvement reggae sur Belle-isle en faisant venir tous les étés différents artistes de la scène française ou internationale. Ils se construisent leur propre system qui aujourd'hui fait 15kW sur le modèle des sounds anglais adapté à ce style de musique qui demande une forte puissance au niveau des bass et des aigus clairs et précis. Aujourd'hui, les sounds system reggae font partis de l'ambiance estivale bien qu'ils en organisent tout au long de l'année pour la population insulaire. L'été c'est jusqu'à 500 personnes qui viennent dans leurs sounds. Tous les massives et saisonniers qui sont un jour venus pendant la saison savent que le reggae music est au top sur Belle-Isle !! Depuis peu, Selecta Jehan, l'un des membres du Promising Crew s'est lancé dans la production de remixes soul, funk, soca, hip-hop ce qui permet d'élargir le mouvement à un plus large public... Un big up également au Untitled Dub Sound, la nouvelle génération de sound system insulaire qui vient ambiancer les danses belliloises dans le style dub UK depuis 2008 et qui organise depuis peu les Island Stations, ainsi qu'au Dub Brothers, présents depuis 2005, qui ont crées leur system de sonorisation et se sont lancés dans la composition de leurs propres dub. Artistes invités et backés par le Promising Crew à Belle-Isle-en-Mer : David Hinds (Steel Pulse), Tippa Irie, Tenor Fly, YT, General Levy, Tonton David, Pierpoljak, Daddy Nuttea, Yaniss Odua, Kenyon, Caporal Nigga, Ras Mc Bean, Difanga, Ganja Tree, Big Red, NZH, Kaly Jah, Biga Ranx, Mista Floy, Jezzaï, Phase Cachée, Volodia, Mr Samy, Don Pako, Raïa, Dar-K, Daddy Seb, Jacka Youth, Keefaz, Sista Jenfy, Mesh, Clean Killa, Rubben, Jah Tool...
