DJ Bootsie (Ugar / BBE Records - Budapest, Hungary)

DJ Bootsie, the  Hungarian interpreter of turntables and sound samples, provides an exact, up to the beat, and in-depth account of his given psychological and musical state every 5 years. His debut album The Silent Partner was released in 2004 while we had to wait for his next one, entitled Holidays in the Shade, till 2009. Another half-decade later, his third album is to be released this fall. While the new record takes a plunge into the dark depths of a familiar musical universe and psyche, it also opens a path for something new.

  His debut album The Silent Partner was released on the Ugar label in 2004. At that time, Bootsie had laid all his cards on the table and since then he continues to work in the same vein: drawing on electronic beats, urban Hip Hop, Hungarian folk music and culture in general, jazz and experimentation, contemporary music and sound painting, film score, while also expanding and breaking the boundaries of traditional music genres. Bootsie’s predominantly instrumental pieces are characterized by epic structures and intimacy. His compositions are stations of an inward journey, created out of self-discipline and self-monitoring. Besides the Hungarian fans of the genre, his album also caught the attention of audiences abroad. Music by Bootsie was featured in such prominent places as the Buddha Bar Compilation (Vol. 7) , DJ Cam-My playlist, Mercedes Benz Mixtape, Marc Cain, Vogue Germany, CSI tv series, etc.)
His second (and third) solo album Holiday in the Shade was released under the renowned British label BBE in 2009. Featuring two New York MCs (Vast Aire and O.C.), the album received great reviews from all over the world, further increasing Bootsie’s prestige. 

Predominantly preferring to compose and produce music alone, Bootsie also performs his pieces live. Initially he played solo, then with his Trio; in recent years, there are two formations accompanying him: a quartet of saxophone, drums, guitar, keyboards and a turntable, or the acoustic big band with violin and wind instruments. The former is more traditional by predominantly playing Hip Hop and jazz while the latter also puts emphasis on contemporary elements of film scores and folk music.

His talent is recognized beyond his fans. Sometimes he receives exciting requests from surprising sources. He composed music for the 2011 film titled Ticket by Oscar-winner animator Ferenc Rófusz. In 2012, he revised two movements of Ferenc Erkel’s historic opera László Hunyadi commissioned by the Hungarian State Opera; success led to further commissioned work to rearrange two Wagner pieces, Götterdämmerung - Twilight of the Gods and Das Rheingold - The Rhine Gold. In the same year, his track Horseriders Toward The Abyss was used for opening the fireworks at the St. Stephen’s Day celebrations of Hungary. 


As a solo DJ, as well as with his live band of various setups from trio to eleven-piece small big-band, he played at a myriad of clubs, concert venues and festivals in Hungary as well as abroad (in Latvia, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Czechia, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, the UK, USA, Spain, Portugal and China).

The Allegro Identity album (4th) live debut was recently held at the Palace of Arts, this was his third performing return to this holy shrine of top venues of his homecountry.
