In July 2010, I got an invitation to play at a small but neat festival named Folk Ibiza. It was my first visit to the island. I got to spin at a bunch of different locations, such as the Hostal Boutique Salinas, Sunset Ashram, and on the terrace at Space. I returned in September of the following year to play a set on Andy Wilson's show on Ibiza Sonica and a second time at the Hostal. I have not been back to Ibiza since. I recently came across this picture (taken at Cala Compte next to Sunset Ashram), which inspired me to make this mix. I tried to sonically capture the vibe that I felt back then. It includes some bona fide classics such as Ashra "Oasis“, Santana "Aqua Marine," and Jah Wobble & Holger Czukay "Hold On To Your Dreams," as well as tunes by Smith & Mudd, Begin, Quiet Village and more. Bill Brewster is a celebrated DJ, music historian, and author known for his deep knowledge of dance music culture and eclectic, genre-spanning DJ sets. Co-author of the seminal book Last Night a DJ Saved My Life with Frank Broughton, Brewster has chronicled the history of DJing and club culture through his writing, including the acclaimed The Record Players. As a co-founder of DJHistory.com and curator of compilations like After Dark on Late Night Tales, he has earned a reputation as a tastemaker and archivist of rare and classic records. With decades of experience behind the decks and a passion for uncovering hidden musical gems, Brewster remains a pivotal figure in the global dance music scene.
