Ostfunk V w/ Joff // 02.07.23

@joffdd hosted an episode of his THF Radio show Ostfunk in Leipzig. As a DJ, collective co-founder & event organiser deeply rooted in the Leipzig music scene, it was with special pleasure and honour to visit the Callshop crew in their studio few meters above the IFZ floors. Enjoy a mix of Breaks, Bass and Trance with quite some pieces "aus der Region".

For our project »Switching Frequencies« we invited @thfradio from Berlin for a showcase. THF Radio is a community radio broadcasting from the former Tempelhof Airport in Berlin. The project was initiated by Callshop Radio to encourage more cooperation and exchange within the radio community. We want to share ideas, expand our knowledge, grow our network and build a cooperating community.

Joff @joffdd presents the first edition of Onward & Eastward (aka Ostfunk), giving stage to underground music scenes in Eastern Germany, Eastern Europe, UK, and beyond.

The newest show on Bucharest's Black Rhino Radio @black-rhino-radio in collaboration with Berlin's THF Radio, broadcasting bi-weekly on Tuesdays and Sundays, respectively.

Expect reflections and interviews alongside breakbeat-infused mixes of House, Electro, Bass, Garage, Trance, and Ambient music. Joff is a Berlin based DJ and community organiser who just moved to Bucharest temporarily.

Over the years, Joff co-founded numerous collectives and underground scene projects and has hosted events, raves, and radio shows in Berlin, Leipzig, Halle, Heidelberg, Warsaw, and Bucharest. Rooted in the Eastern-German subcultural spirit of the 2000s, he dedicates much love and passion to the creation of ever-more non-commercial, accessible, unpretentious and value-driven spaces and has engaged in various forms of scene community organising.

"I grabbed a bunch of new tracks I’ve been really into as well as some unreleased goodies from friends, old favorites and records I’ve snagged on the road. I recorded this at my home in Berlin. I especially love one of the new tracks from Das Komplex on Love on the Rocks’ forthcoming compilation. I tried to not play too many Australian tracks but I couldn’t help myself!"

Sound of Another Name IV : Carlo & Selma

Artist Info:
“Imagine Rick James dating Chaka Khan, dancing to Daft Punk and Technotronic, making sweet love to a Stevie Wonder ballad, when suddenly a group of German robots and a Yellow Magic Orchestra come rushing into the hotel suite and... they all decide to go to France instead.”

That’s how Lorenz Rhode describes his sound and it’s pretty spot on. After a fierce funk EP on Compost Records he produced a slew of brilliant cuts for the excellent Exploited Records, including "Motor Cortex" (single of the month in Mixmag), "Something Hot", which got love from Top-DJs as A-Trak, Sinden, DJ Mehdi, Aeroplane, Hudson Mohawke, Breakbot, and "Superficial Robots" which came with a remix courtesy of Jimmy Edgar. Together with soul genius Jamie Lidell he released "Any Kind Of Pressure" on Kitsuné Maison, pairing Jamie‘s magnificient voice with manic Hi-NRG rhythms and old school synths.

His music is equally at home at erm, home, or on the dancefloor, and has both a little something for the head and something for the feet and hips. The man got funk!

Lorenz Rhode has contributed remixes for Jamie Lidell (Warp), Yelle (Kitsuné), Moullinex (Gomma), Strip Steve (Boysnoize), Jan Delay (Universal), Cassian (Bang Gang), Ben Mono (Compost) and more.
