HOUSE for the Strange

I know, I know, it's late, but hey, I've been travelling. A bit of a Jekyll and Hyde one this week. Jekyll is indie/alternative pop/rock, starting with the sunny sounds of Yuno, then ramping it up with Ben McElvey, and keeping it there with Company Ink, rocking along (anthem style) with EUT, getting dreamier with Tusks, and then ending part one with the danceable pop sounds of Playing House. Hyde is a disco belter from FLEVANS (remixed by Ray Mang), EDM (in a drum&bassy style) from Prospa, and a cracking chilled House tune from Harry Wolfman before we round off with the ambient sounds of Kira Kira. What's noticeable is the wide range of easily spotted influences this week, but I'll leave you to pick them out. Tough choice again for track of the week, but I'm just going for the FLEVANS "It Just  Goes" remix, ahead of several others.

Arnold & Lane - All The Meat

Our favorite weekend of the year is back! The Dirtybird Campout is now 4 years old and gets better every year, and our annual festival of games and friends (and this year, swimming!) wouldn’t be complete with our traditional soundtrack, the “Dirtybird Campout West Compilation”.

We’ve packed in 12 brand new tracks as well as a mix from our newest Dirtybird Player, Steve Darko, who leads off the comp with “Switch It Up”. We unearthed Eli Brown’s remix of Fisher’s ‘Ya Kidding’, and Sacha Robotti & Kevin Knapp join forces for “King Midas”. James Curd makes his debut on Dirtybird with KE’s vocals on ‘Play To Win”, and Will Clarke remixes Nick Monaco’s “Drama”, which originally appeared on our East Coast comp.

Finishing off the musical journey is several new faces, including Pimpo Gama, MDE, n808, and NiQW, along with Lucati’s “Like 17, Lubelski’s “Kaya” and “Waremouse” from Wyatt Marshall & Fritz Carlton.

It's so confusing these days. 

I'm no longer sure whether it was the great German philosopher Nietzsche or the nearly coulda been a proper model social influencer Claire something or other who said it....I'm pretty sure it was Nietzsche..but in any case...one of them once said..

"and those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who couldn't hear the music."

And without reference to any notes, I'm going to surmise that the point of this statement was that all things are relative and that without reference to other things, things become different. Take away the music..the dancing makes no sense...but add it to a frame of reference and bingo!!!

It's kinda how I feel about WONGO!!! His brilliance dances so confidently with that of insanity that - to use the quote - if you couldn't hear his wonky techno madness, you sure would think his near naked dance moves were asylum ready .

But alas - we have ears and we have speakers and when enjoying the ROBOTS & MACHINES EP we definitely advise placing our ears close to some made for the club type speakers..or even better...be in a club when listening!!!

Chances are, if you go to clubs where peeps like Chris Lake, Billy Kenny, A-trak, Martin Solvieg, Born Dirty, Dr Fresch play, then you will probably hear them drop some of this WONGO wildness.

"And we should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once."

This one was definitely by Nietzsche.

And I'm off to dance with Claire!!!
