Emerging last year as Austria’s latest drum & bass talent to take the world by storm, Martin Mefjus as been on a serious roll with his music featuring heavily in the sets of the scenes biggest players. Never ones to rest on their laurels Critical were listening and snapped him up all for themselves as the latest to join the Critical roster alongside Enei, Foreign Concept, Xtrah and Emperor. Now as he readies his debut solo release on the label, Mefjus looks set to take things up a gear.

Next up label boss Kasra joins forces with the young Austrian on another absolute belting slice of technoid drum & bass that’s been getting Critical’s Fabric sessions in all sorts of bother of late. ‘Cypher’ is pure future with the synth stabs to match and bassline to smash, showing some strong sturdy roots for possibly a few more collaborations from these two. Wait and see...

AA Mefjus & Kasra - Cypher [CRIT069]

As the year 2013 starts to pick up the pace Protect Audio is back once again for its 5th release in the form of two tracks from artist duo 'Survey'. Berlin's Stephan Albrecht & Hardy Schulz are the men behind the name, and with them they bring years of individual production and DJ experience now safely housed under the one alias. 

First off we have 'Grid Sheet' which wastes absolutely no time at all in introducing you to the duos dark and heavy sound. Sinister, siren-like screams move in and out whilst combining with the snarls of tortured synthesized bass to give this track a thoroughly frightening feel. Add in the intricately put together kick-based percussion and this track has everything the DJ needs to shock the audience to attention. 

On the B-side lies 'All In All' which brings back the dark old-school roller with a nice dash of modern-day production quality. This track has a feel of sci-fi mixed with a tough and gritty nature, dropping its bass on the listener like a punch in the chest. Once again you will find the growls of chopped synthesised sounds and stabs accompanied by crisp rolling beats and low end drone-like textures that really push home this modern-day industrial sound.

Since it's launch in June 2012, Protect Audio has been committed to showcasing contemporary drum and bass with a focus on the deeper and more tech influenced side of the spectrum. Over their initial five releases Protect Audio have brought some new names to the scene including most recently Berlin based duo Survey and northerner Marukomu.

The sixth addition to the label's growing discography is the "Diffraction Of Sound EP. A four track EP featuring four tracks from artists previously featured on the label. Marukomu, Survey, Shiver and Homemade Weapons all make a welcome return with some smooth production and contemporary vibes. The music speaks for itself.
