Target Audience presents ‘No Man’s Land’ and ‘You & Me’ and provides new insight into the sounds of Protocode’s catalogue. There’s a melodic underpinning to each record, slowing down the brakes on the harder driving anthems which ProtoCode are renowned for and instead offering something with a more emotive heart. 

‘No Man’s Land’ is the first of two records and it’s effortlessly captivating with its pitched synthesis and rolling beat patterns, taking you out into the expansive world of the track’s soundscape. Before long you’re swept up in its driving bassline and it lends itself to the track’s more dancefloor vibe. 

Then on the flip, you’re delivered ‘You & Me’, featuring a darker edge than its forerunner alongside its clapping patches of percussion. Step by step you’re taken into its first break, one which shatters as you’re dropped through elevating layers of synths and note arpeggios. 

Whilst it still pays homage to the softer side of Protocode, it also still features the darker underbelly which has become a signature for the label. So once more it’s time to pull yourself into the moods of Protocode, showcased by a range of groundbreaking producers like Target Audience.

On October 8th Ukrainian-Russian trio TEDDY KILLERZ kicked off the first official Neuropunk remix competition for their track SHINE off their PANIC ATTACK EP. For this occasion they went all out and offered some incredible prizes, from Native Instruments KOMPLETE 12 packages to an official release on Neuropunk Records for the first place. As the judges, including Gydra, Nais and Vigilante from Artists & Relations, began to work through to the 300+ entries from newcomers and veterans alike, it became clear that more than one of these incredible remixes has to be released. So they decided to release the first THREE winners on the SHINE REMIXES EP!

Coming in at third place we have a fresh remix by a veteran from Auckland: INTERCEPT! Even though he started his career back in 2009, due to real life obligations he took a break a few years later and has only returned just now. The chopped up sounds weaved into this quick aggressive techy sound barrage give the track a whole other level of energy that just gets you moving. After the wild first drop he slows it down to half-time that still hits you just as hard, if not more.

From new-school to old-school, second place goes to PICOTA & KUMBH! Although they don't experience much darkness in their sunny hometown Seville, these two are experts in creating dark atmospheres, as they have clearly demonstrated in their remix. As soon as that first old-school reese bass hits, you know you're in for one hell of a ride. With funk oozing out of everywhere and some room-filling bass, you have no choice but to nod along. In the second half the duo change the straight-forward drum rhythm into a more syncopated old-school break flow.

Drumroll, please. First place in the first official Neuropunk remix competition goes to... MOEKEL! From old-school to Schnitzel-school, this talented Austrian newcomer takes the track in yet another wildly different direction, standing out as one of the most unique productions of the bunch. With his signature big analogue-sounding synth plucks he creates a sound that is minimal, yet hard-hitting, and full of details. Schnitzelstep, as some would call it. After the first full-speed drop the muted drums lead us into a half-time break before switching back for one last big DnB finale.
