After dropping several tracks and performing at select festivals throughout the years, Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen dedicated the year 2014 to explore the area in-between Ólafur’s more acoustic, piano-based solo work and Janus’s synth-heavy electro pop, with their collaborative electronic project Kiasmos.

By focusing solely on their self-titled debut album, Ólafur and Janus have been able to combine and further develop their unique sound aesthetics to complete an album driven by their mutual love for electronic music. Made in Ólafur’s newly build studio in Reykjavík, Iceland, a majority of the album was recorded using acoustic instruments next to a variety of synthesisers, drum machines and tape delays. It features a live drummer, string quartet and Ólafur performing on the grand piano, producing an ambient, textured sound, which makes it a perfect home listen and equally danceable record. If you listen closely, you can spot them record the thumb piano, finger snapping and even the sound of the metal grinder of a lighter slowly to replace the usual electronic hi-hat sounds, giving the album a far more intimate and unique atmosphere.

“We decided to start almost completely over with this record, so most of the material is written this year with the idea of making a record that can stand as one piece rather than a collection of songs. I am very excited to get a proper record out exploring a different territory than I am used to. I touch a lot on electronic genres in my own music but never have the opportunity to go full out electronic like we do here.” – Ólafur Arnalds

So when we early this year finally found the time to sit down and make a full length album there was so much we wanted to try out. Opening 2022's final quarter, Cid Inc's Replug Records welcomes Mike Griego back to the label for a new EP. Based in Buenos Aires, the Argentinean DJ and producer has carved out a unique place in the electronic underground. His exacting design, addictive grooves and avant-garde melodies have made for a transcendent sound that continues to unify dancefloors around the world. With a career that now approaches fifteen years and one hundred discography credits, Mike would have to be considered one of progressive music's elite artists. A meticulous discography reflects his choosy nature; with Replug and Sudbeat serving as the primary landing spots for his musical output. With 2021 being highlighted by his most recent Replug vehicle ‘Dysbiosis', the Argentine made a much-lauded return to Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music earlier this year with ‘Foreign Affair', before laying down impressive renditions of Kasper Koman's ‘In Circles' and Dmitry Molosh & Navar's ‘Foreign Wonders', released c/o Juicebox Music and Proportion respectively. Now, continuing what has been a great year, Mike returns to Replug with a three-track showcase entitled ‘Flying Doves'. 

As a favourite of Replug label boss Cid Inc across the summer season, EP opener and title selection ‘Flying Doves' finds Mike at his creative best. Shot in high-definition and full of detail and drive, it's an emotive voyage where the Buenos Aires resident flexes his freethinking muscles and lands comfortably in-between groove-centric science and hopeful musicality. The inevitable zenith of this peak-time excursion mounts with nostalgic melodies and balmy harmonics converging, achieving a rich, colourful timbre over a bed of pulsating beats and fascinating percussion arrangements. 

More enigmatic yet is the EPs second selection 'Brothi'', a creation which finds Mike etching towards a darker monochrome. Plush kick drums and voluptuous bass stabs lead to electrified iterations of new age sonics. Cleverly cadenced coactions underpin a fascinating blend of pyrotechnic effects, before segueing into the main break where metallic melodies and effervescent rides unite, setting the course for a finale of rebounding rhythms and surreal sonic aesthetics.

The third and final selection 'Blood Echo' further solidifies Mike's transcendent abilities. Possessing a dramatic undercurrent, the Argentine works hypnotizing structures over punchy kick drums and detailed percussion, creating waves of locomotive meditation. Its thrilling pulse has become a production hallmark for Mike, one where inventive drum patterns, mesmerizing rhythms and quixotic effects carry the storyboard onwards to a thunderous dance floor awakening. A fitting conclusion to a fresh three-track odyssey, one where Mike carefully balances technique and musicality, thus continuing his tenure as one of Argentina's most beloved progressive house producers.

Originally released at the end of 2022, “EXT 135 / Elemental / Time to Space” showcased GMJ & Matter as masters of the progressive house genre. Now, Meanwhile revisits the 3-track EP with a trio of outstanding new remixes.

Henri Hurtig has been at the vanguard of modern underground dance music for close to two decades with his Cid Inc. production alter-ego. Some 600+ production credits for the likes of microCastle, Lost & Found and his own highly respected, Replug, are testament to an enduring appeal as is a packed tour calendar where the Finnish star continues to tour the world. Now making his Meanwhile debut, the Cid Inc. remix of “Elemental” retains a similar rhythmic poise to the original as a familiar bass pattern blends with a squeaking, bleeping effects layer. A trademark storming beat and seething dancefloor character is in full evidence as a distorted and frenetic breakdown leads to a new melodic character in the second half to brilliant effect. The result is a typically impressive reworking full of dynamism and brio.

A rising star in the progressive firmament since early work for EIN2 in 2018, Tantum has hit considerable heights with his music on Juicebox Music, Mango Alley and Guy J’s Lost & Found. A Meanwhile debut in mid-2023 saw “Secondary / Suan Pan / Narko” place the German star front and centre with a musical triptych of the highest order, as Tantum now returns with a deep and innovative take on “Time to Space”. Replete with rolling groove and deep bassline presence, a more stripped back offering allows the central motif from the original a chance to flourish within a new cadenced structure, while richly textured pads flow effortlessly across the musical stream. Rising and falling in easy patterns, a new arpeggiated pattern makes itself heard alongside a raft of additional production material and counterpoint melodies as the remix heads towards a rousing finale.

Reworking “EXT 135” themselves, Meanwhile head honchos, GMJ & Matter have given the track a sublime “Ambient Reprise”. Stripping away the powerful rhythmic backdrop of the original, the duo have created a sublime interpretation that captures the central melodic elements of the original, allowing them to blossom unencumbered by dancefloor character. The result is a chorus of deliciously crafted keynotes and melodies that blend together in seamless fashion, held together by a deep sub-bass groove. The result is a smooth and pristine slice of electronica magic.

Shining once more through remixes from Cid Inc. and Tantum, GMJ & Matter have given a new lease of life to “EXT 135 / Elemental / Time to Space”.

For Matter, more than half a century of production credits adorn the jewel-encrusted crown that sits atop the Meanwhile and Meanwhile Horizons catalogues that he and fellow countryman, GMJ, preside over. Now returning to the label with a new twin-track offering, Matter delights once again with “Embrace / Elsewhere”.

From April 2020’s “Lost on Origin” and December 2023’s “Stellaris / Idtritah” with long-time friend and production partner, GMJ, to solo endeavours that include 2020’s musical triptych, “Amanita” and 2022’s “Banksia, Matter has continued to excel time and again in the progressive house realm. Always at the vanguard of an ever-evolving genre, the Australian star continues to find success in the studio in tandem with global DJ performances across Europe in Amsterdam, Glasgow, London as well as festival appearances in Australia and in clubs throughout his Melbourne hometown.

Now returning with a brand-new sonic diptych, “Embrace” is a chugging rhythmic gem that sparkles with hi-hat dynamism while a lilting percussive groove and cavernous kick keep a lock-tight beat. A beautifully syncopated synth-line, textured pads and floating vocal phrases create a relaxed atmosphere, as they evolve gently into full-formed phrases at the breakdown. Dropping back in the warm embrace of the earlier rhythmic phrasing, the vocal phrasing continues alongside the ethereal melodic elements and intermittent effects.

Opening with a bouncing grooved bassline and fizzing shaker pattern, a metronomic kick paves the way for a muted synth sequence to filter into the sonic foreground with ease. A sub-bassline deeper than the Mariana Trench adds to cascading sonic landscape as arpeggiated layers, thickly textured pads and white-noise fills join together. A heavily delayed and reverb-drenched vocal reveals itself at the breakdown alongside an array of melodic sequences, before the epic groove drops back in through the third movement with the extended vocal phrase and arpeggio combining to mesmerising effect.

Back to welcome the Meanwhile faithful with a 24-carat jewel, Matter’s hallmark of quality can be found running through “Embrace / Elsewhere”.

'Time / Vagabund' is the new two-original-track EP by the Argentinian new duo UNDERMOVE @undermove-musik (Kebin van Reeken @kebinvanreeken-1 + Topo Larocca @topolarocca ). These two artists have a long solo experience as DJ and producers, but have decided start to make music together, using all their skills and talent. This EP is the first release as UNDERMOVE, and its a good prove of the perfect symbiosis that they have to make progressive house music. Solid beats, strong and heavy basses, melodic and hypnotic elements, and resources taken from Techno and House club music

The EP is completed by two amazing remixes. The experienced artist EWAN RILL @ewan-rill remixes 'Time', showing his particular style, taken the main elements from the original track. REDSPACE @redspacesound puts all his artillery to make a strong and powerful version of 'Vagabund'.

REFRACTION RECORDS opens the autumn season with a new EP from label boss Pedro Capelossi. Brazilian born, Spain based artist Pedro Capelossi has been at the cutting edge of electronic music for the better part of a decade. Comparable to the path of his contemporaries, Pedro has found a way to create a personal universe by exploring electronic sounds, and ultimately finding his own place in the trend-driven state of underground dance music. Fully formed within the creative confines of his Barcelona studio, Pedros first Refraction project Supernova, not only served as the imprints inaugural offering, but continued his mission to create contemporary club tools and destabilizing sound explorations. With the success of Refraction sweeping across the first two quarters of 2024, Pedro returned to his flagship imprint in August, teaming up with Brazilian talent Aeikus for a collaborative effort of dubbed out grooves. Now, for the labels sixth offering, Pedro takes the reins once again, this time in a solo capacity with Dub Chronicles, alongside remixes from OHM, Dubtommy, and Francisco Aguado.

Returning to Meanwhile with a full debut EP, Zankee Gulati continues his journey as a rising progressive house talent with the “Mind Opener / Magnetic Island” EP. A single remix comes from Argentinean duo, Analog Jungs.

A recognised force in his Sydney hometown, Zankee Gulati has continued to see his star shine increasingly bright within the underground dance firmament. An artist and promoter renowned for his spellbinding sets across Sydney’s clubs and for bringing the likes of Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Ben Bohmer to New South Wales, the Australian’s performance in the studio has only cemented a rapidly growing reputation. A mounting catalogue of sumptuous offerings has increasingly featured on the likes of Sudbeat Music, The Soundgarden and Balance Music, plus a standout contribution to John Digweed’s “Futuro” compilation on Bedrock, with “Low Tide” in collaboration with fellow countryman, Jamie Stevens. Two appearances on GMJ & Matter’s imprints in December 2022 saw “The Magic Spoon” feature on “Beyond The Horizon, Vol. 2”, while “HereAfter” found its way onto the flagship label’s, “Meanwhile Excursions, Vol. 3” in July 2023.

Now hitting the heights once more, the light and airy tones of “Mind Opener” reveal themselves over a strong kick and ticking percussive top-line. Rippling arps and a strong motif keep the energy high as analogue edge gradually develops within the latter with an open filter creates a range of harmonic frequencies that shine over a beatless breakdown. Dropping back into the hefty rhythmic groove, the track then draws to its meticulously sculpted conclusion. “Magnetic Island” is a deep, chugging powerhouse. Full of rhythmic prowess and building elegantly through thumping kick and shaker-driven groove, a beautiful melodic passage develops within a hypnotic arp that filters to a powerful denouement in the final stages. The strong rhythmic narrative of its predecessor then finds its place once more in the final stages.

A single remix comes from Argentinean duo, Analog Jungs, who first came to Meanwhile prominence on their 3-track “Surrender” EP in March 2022. Already regulars on blue-chip labels that include Mango Alley, Hope Recordings and Manual Music, the Córdoba-based pair excel once more with a chunky interpretation that creates a trademark rhythmic foundation and driving bassline groove. Adding tropes from Zankee Gulati’s original, they turn “Mind Opener” into an exciting and dynamic new track that is redolent in additional production material and melodic invention. The result is a powerful remix that is an exceptional addition to the EP.

Roy Rosenfeld is a producer who prioritizes independence, freedom of expression, and spiritual depth over passing trends. His new label, "No Drama," embodies his musical and lifestyle aesthetics. Despite his advanced studio skills, Rosenfeld remains modest and collaborative. The label's inaugural release features his work alongside Sébastien Léger and Guy J.
The A-side opens with Sébastien Léger's "Omira," a track that guarantees a lively atmosphere on any dance floor. Its eclectic spirit combines world music elements with hypnotic house beats, building up to a powerful crescendo.
Next, Rosenfeld's "Nana" merges the organic house with a carnival vibe and cinematic melodies, all enhanced by tribal percussion.
The B-side starts with Guy J's "Karma," a dark, seductive, and cerebral piece for discerning listeners. This trance-inducing track employs subtle variations of repetitive sequences, creating a minimalist yet captivating soundscape.
The final track on the B-side, "Saga Dawa," available only on vinyl, showcases Rosenfeld's genre-defying talent. He combines Middle Eastern melodies with psychedelic sounds, unpredictable vocal samples, exceptional dance rhythms, and even piano chords, resulting in an inspiring track.
This release marks the launch of "No Drama" and the start of Rosenfeld's new journey.

Having been available exclusively as the second disc to 2015's 'Collaborative Works', Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm's improvised audio recordings 'Trance Frendz', taken from their 45-minute studio film of the same name, have been given their own vinyl release – out March 4th, 2016.

Prior to a string of collaborative Erased Tapes releases, which include 2012's 'Stare' 10” and last year’s 'Life Story Love and Glory' 7” and 'Loon' 12” – compiled on the 'Collaborative Works' 2-CD set, Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm spent many hours together in their studios across Berlin and Reykjavik. Both have carved out genre-defying musical careers and formed unique live shows, creating a fan base loyal to their prolific output.

During a session at Durton Studio in Berlin last summer, Nils and Ólafur invited Alexander Schneider and his camera to document it. The recording continued long after the first take, stretching out into the next day until, eventually, several new improvisations had been recorded in 8 hours with no overdubs or edits. The unexpected nature in which these pieces had been created was reminiscent of their first on-stage improvisation many years ago. It became immediately clear how special these songs were.

Originally made available as a 45-minute film on their joint website (www.arnaldsfrahm.com) last September, 'Trance Frendz' will be available to own on vinyl from March 4th, 2016.

Icelandic contemporary composer Ólafur Arnalds created and released a new song, one per day for one for one whole week during the month of October 2011. The songs were recorded and filmed live in the living room of his Reykjavik apartment and released instantly for free as streamed videos and mp3 downloads.

This time Ólafur takes the idea further and invites the audience into the comfort of his living room, where the songs were recorded live and the whole process filmed. The songs were instantly released in form of a free mp3 download and video stream- straight from Ólafur's Reykjavik apartment.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: ‘One night I was just playing my piano here in this apartment and I was writing a new song and I didn't have my phone on me which I usually use to record ideas. So I actually took out my MacBook and I didn't want to open like a proper recording program, so I just opened Photo Booth and recorded a video of myself playing the song so that I would remember the song. And I really liked the atmosphere of that video and that's when I thought I should do a series of songs in my living room...’             – Ólafur Arnalds


Born in the suburban Icelandic town of Mosfellsbær, a few kilometers outside of Reykjavík, the 24-year old composer has always enjoyed pushing boundaries with both his studio work and his live-shows. Through relentless touring and determination this young artist has steadily gained recognition worldwide since his 2007 debut Eulogy for Evolution.
