Adding another debutant to the label, Proton Music welcomes Anton Make and a quintet of Teflon-coated tracks in "Bulletproof".

Originally from the historic and beautiful city of St Petersburg on the Baltic coast, Anton Make has carved out a sizeable reputation from his home in Kazan on the banks of the Volga. Fêted by Mixmag Russia as "one of the most worthy Russian adherents of the progressive sound", Anton has continued to dine at underground dance music's top table with a string of productions that first saw a commercial release on Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic's Mistique Music imprint in June 2012. Some eight years later and with a double century of credits to his name, Anton Make has seen his music allied to a host of high-profile labels that include Mango Alley, JOOF Recordings and Cid Inc.'s Replug. Indeed, 2018's "Naja Nova" with Shamil OM and January 2019's "Divo" has seen Anton continue to develop an impressive relationship with the Finnish legend's label. Finding his way on to Particles in February 2019 with the twin-track "Aquamarine" EP after a 2017 remix of Robin Thurston, Anton Make now makes his debut on Proton's flagship imprint with the five-track "Bulletproof".

The title track is a bristling rhythmic offering that glistens with rock-solid percussive groove and hypnotic woodblock phrasing. A filtered pad provides intrigue as a series of motifs evolve atop a laid-back bass groove. Rich delays and reverbs add texture and depth as an emotive breakdown melody opens up and extends into the third movement. "Claudio" immediately impresses with a slightly more up-tempo feel as an off-beat hi-hat pattern adds subtle urgency. A fast-paced melodic sequence provides intrigue with its subtle variations while pads and white-noise effect pan hits cross the left-right spectrum. The result is an intelligent dancefloor track.

A chugging cadence belies the cleverly programmed chords that ripple out in waves across "Melbourne". Subtly embracing an array of textured risers and effects, a heavily processed lead-line in the mid-point breakdown hints at a vocal phrase underneath before bass, rhythm and melody combine once more in the second half to impressive effect. Immediately grabbing listener attention with its strong bassline sequence, a body-shaking percussive line combines to ensure "My Little Princess" turns heads. Sumptuous synths and pads combine in multi-faceted layers before a glorious grooved arpeggio adds a club-friendly element to the second half.

A satisfying "Denouement" sees another trademark bassline groove, stratified layers of sound and rich sonic palette envelop along with glittering chords and vibrato lead-line. A bold arpeggio waxes and wanes in mesmerising fashion as the track reaches a breakdown crescendo of white-noise power before extending into the third movement with Vangelis inspired synth line.

Five powerful tracks find Anton Make making a "Bulletproof" debut on Proton Music.

Another debutant to hit the Particles roster, Deepshader reveals himself through his twin-track "Fragments" EP. Both originals and a pair of remixes complete a Moldovan picture.

A pulsating wave of sound immediately propels "Fragments" forward with dizzying power. Rich chord progressions and bassline prowess combine with ethnic vocal phrasing to create a heady melodic collage, while a heavy beat and lighter percussive cadence provide body-shaking groove. Heavily side-chained throughout, the result is a dramatic and striking work. "Sur" opens with whip-cracking kick, rolling groove and cleverly programmed bassline presence. Hitting its stride over a seven-minute duration, organic instrumentation meanders in freeform glory post-breakdown to create a mesmerising piece that showcases skill and craftsmanship in abundance.

The ‘twin-headed dragon' of Lanvary continue to dominate the underground dance scene with their uniquely crafted works, cooked up in their Moldovan production kitchen. Able to point to over 150 production credits to their name across a decade-long career, the duo have been frequent contributors on such notable imprints as Stellar Fountain, Mistique Music and Balkan Connection. Regulars on Proton Music and Particles, their "Venus" and "Everything You Feel" EPs for the former and "Micromegas", "Slingshot Ride" and "Leviathan" for the latter have consistently seen them creating a stir. Returning to Particles, the Lanvary remix of "Fragments" is thus an immaculately crafted affair that revels in glissando bassline dominance. Evolving in elegant fashion, phrases from the original ripple across the nine-minute piece in shimmering new cadence while a new arpeggio ripples alongside, mirroring the key change found in the bassline. A driving beat and rolling percussive groove complete a stunning reinterpretation.

Another new name to the Particles roster, Andrei Schirca's Nkoder moniker has seen him feature with a string of original and remix material across a ten-year history. Making his debut for Terminal 4 in late 2010, the Moldovan born artist has gone on to feature for the likes of Saturate Audio, Noise Dealers and Balkan Connection with a half-century of production credits. Moreover, his collaboration with Deepshader on "Twice a Sky" was a notable highlight on the "Da Funk pres. Deep Sessions 01" for Silk Music in early 2016. A Particles debutant, a growling bassline and cavernous sub-bass characterise the Nkoder remix of "Fragments". Filtered synth lines and pitch-bent stabs pierce the sonic landscape with analogue saturation while sumptuous pads fill the aural space with texture and depth. Elements from Deepshader's original echo through the remix but Nkoder's skill is to sculpt them into a new and immaculately crafted interpretation that erupts with raw analogue power across the stereo signal in the final movement to superb effect.

Two sparkling new originals plus remixes from Lanvary and Nkoder see "Fragments" coalesce around the work of Deepshader.

Premiere: Steve Slight & MXV - Return to Base (Anton MAKe Remix) [Mango Alley]

The latest release from Madloch’s Sound Avenue imprint welcomes Balad back to the label for a new EP entitled ‘A Distant Memory’. The Australian artist first appeared on the Belgian imprint in 2019 with ‘The Days’, an EP produced alongside frequent studio partner Bigasti. The Sydney residents deep sound has continued to flourish as he carefully adds to a resume that includes releases on Balance Music, BeatFreak Recordings, Where The Heart Is and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden. Now making a welcome return to Sound Avenue, Balad presents his first solo EP for the label alongside a remix from Zone+. 
Beginning with the title selection Balad explores a gorgeous blend of organic drums and charming musicality. Warm beats and layers of exotic percussion set the foundation for a narrative of wistful themes and nature motifs. Plush tones then drift over the framework for impassioned moments, before melting to a charming centrepiece and heartfelt finale.
The second selection ‘A Half Remembered Dream’ continues the ethos of the EP while adding a slightly more reflective quality. Smooth, elegant and a touch romantic, it’s a captivating eight-minute journey. Muted tones and impassioned wails marry elegant motifs and thoughtful atmospherics, while exotic percussion and fluttery concepts provide the perfect prelude to a gorgeous final act.
The third and final original ‘A Place Forgotten’ once again finds Balad operating at a creative peak. From smooth, percussive beginnings comes buoyant yet elegant rhythms. Blissful atmospheres and redolent shades slowly descend over dulcet beats and organic drums. As the narrative evolves so too does its emotive appeal, with sentimental motifs and soulful refrains trailing over the framework, before a muted piano highlights a glowing break and dreamy final act. 
The release concludes with Zone+ returning to the label and providing the lone interpretation of ‘A Half Remembered Dream’. The Bahrain born, Dubai based artist has firmly established himself with releases on All Day I Dream, Akbal Music, Underyourskin and Sol Selectas. Having first appeared on Sound Avenue in 2017 with a collaborative EP alongside Bachir Salloum, Zone+ now makes a welcome return to the label with a gorgeous rendition of ‘A Half Remembered Dream’. Taking a cue from the original while adding a funkier state of mind, the Dubai resident crafts a lovely complement to the original. Subterranean beats and perfectly contoured bass stabs create a massive sense of space, while lively percussion adds further bounce to the narrative. Timely fills create dynamic moments across the first act, while warm overlays highlight an emotive final movement. An exceptional remix from Zone+, capping off a welcome return to the label for both himself and Balad.
