A New Life

With Australian artist, GMJ lighting up the northern hemisphere autumn with a new "Sovereign Reality", Proton Music now returns to partner track, "Push Through", with remixes from Argentinean and Italian giants.

Juan Deminicis is an artist who is steeped in the history of underground dance music. Inspired by legends of the industry whether Sasha, Digweed or fellow countryman, Hernan Cattaneo, Deminicis became a recognised DJ across his Buenos Aries home with weekly performances behind the decks at the likes of Bahrein and Crobar seeing his support base grow exponentially. A production career that began on Atlantdigital in late 2008, has subsequently blossomed into 260 production credits for some of the finest labels including Sudbeat, Lost and Found and Plattenbank. Indeed, the "Memory Dude/Lavataur" EP for the latter saw a high-profile collaboration with Jimmy Van M in January 2018 and charted by Guy J. A regular on Proton Music in 2013, the "Behind the Sun" EP was a notable highlight, followed by a host of remixes from James Monro, Guy Mantzur and Khen. Now returning to the label for the first time in over four years, the Juan Deminicis remix of GMJ is a beautiful interpretation of "Push Through" as the central melodic motif of the original is combined with a wondrously warm bassline that drifts evocatively across the track. A plethora of additional production material can be heard, not least in a new lead line that echoes across the mid-range with subtlety and skill. A driving beat and shuffling percussive add further to a dynamic piece.

Part of the Cassino and Label duo that began in 2001, Andrea Cassino is an artist who quickly saw his work signed to a host of blue chip imprints that included, Armada, Babylon and Tilth Music, supported by the likes of Sasha, Tiesto and Van Dyk. Breaking out on his own in 2009, the Italian quickly discovered a love of the darker, underground side of dance music with deeper offerings that quickly found their way onto the catalogues of Balkan Connection, Soundteller and Lowbit, reaching the playlists of Nick Warren, John Digweed and Hernan Cattaneo. Long term friends of Proton Music since 2010's "Don't Be Afraid" album with Alex Laben, Cassino has found recent success on the label with both his Nocturna project (alongside Danny Lloyd) and his solo material. May 2017's "Divine" EP shone like a beacon with its heavenly melodies and intricate rhythms, and so it is with genuine pleasure that we welcome back the Argentinean based legend for a second remix after Michael A's "Seven" in September 2017. Characterised by chunky rhythmic foundations and sumptuous bass groove, the melodic trope so central to the original, filters into aural range as it fits like a glove against the new bass and rhythm section. Evolving delicately, a deeply textured pad reveals itself before a new motif appears at the mid-point breakdown with a tinge of middle-eastern flavour. Picking up hypnotically in the third movement, Andrea Cassino's skill is to craft and sculpt something extraordinary.
