A duo with a distinctive and unparalleled sound, Huminal have continued to capture the imagination of the underground dance fraternity with their spellbinding music. Returning to Proton Music, the "Macropsia" EP continues their growing association with the label.

Hailing from the Dutch capital, lifelong friends, Paul Deetman and Jelle Jansen have ridden the crest of a creative wave through their Huminal production soubriquet. Continually impressing with each and every release and an ability to convey a strong musical message to an ever-growing legion of fans, their unique sonic architecture has seen their sound championed by an all-star DJ elite, from Marc Romboy and Jonas Saalbach to Hernan Cattaneo and Barry Jamieson.

Regular across the clubs of their Amsterdam hometown with a string of spell-binding performances for the likes of local promoters, Pleinvrees and NGHTDVSN, their compelling blend of melodic driven electronica and techno has captured the imagination of audiences across the globe. Simultaneously, a growing portfolio of original and remix production material has elevated Huminal to an elite group of producers who continue to push the boundaries of sonic experimentation. Thus, work for Einmusika, Mango Alley and Paul Hazendonk's MNL, has led to over a century production credits. Regulars on Particles and Proton Music, the "Acrophobia" and "Pocket Universe" EPs for the former in 2014 and 2015, quickly led to a string of original releases on the latter, flagship imprint. August 2015's "Knocking on the Sky" was a notable debut, followed by July 2017's "We Dwell in the Past" which went on to see high-profile remixes from D-Formation and Rodrigo Gallardo.

Returning to Proton Music with "Macropsia", the title track is a typically audacious combination of melodic flair and head-shaking rhythms that evolves into a momentous piece as a growling Moog-like bassline opens a filter into rasping intensity. Building throughout, a gloriously placed melodic phrase provides continuity while searing pads and white-noise effects add to the aural collage as "Macropsia" erupts in the third movement to dancefloor destroyer after a searing breakdown of counterpoint crescendo.

Partner track, "Bad Baboon" retains the melodic credentials and rhythmic intricacy of its predecessor as a glorious broken beat and sublime percussive groove rips across the opening section. Simultaneously, a series of complementary sounds emerge across the sonic landscape as a searing glissando lead cuts through the mid-range, backed by delay-rich ostinato that waxes and wanes across the third movement to mesmeric effect.

Rising out of a vivid soundscape, Huminal's larger than life sound is magnified through "Macropsia".
