An artist who epitomises the modern underground dance industry, Michael A is as gifted as is he is affable. Returning to Proton Music for fourth original EP in the space of twelve months, it is a genuine honour to welcome him back to the label with "Aura Tears".

From the central-southern city of Mazyr, rich in natural resources, Mikhail Akulich has mined from a rich seam of talent through his Michael A moniker. One of his country's most exciting talents, the Belarusian producer continues to find himself at the vanguard of the underground scene with his distinctive blend of "progressive house and techno". A prolific artist, some 650 production credits sit proudly next to the Michael A name; a profound achievement given a commercial debut with a clutch of original releases for Sterofaza and Fluro Music in mid-2012.

Since then a panoply of original and remix production material has been within the catalogues of some of the finest modern independent imprints, not least in the February 2017 "Micrologica" EP for Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat plus work for Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital and Cid Inc.'s Replug. Further original work for Mango Alley has also seen a high-profile remix from Australian icon, Jamie Stevens, while Akulich has also founded his own Genesis Music imprint to great effect and a regular vehicle for his production work. Hitting the Particles catalogues in late 2013, 2014's "Behind The Moon" was a notable highlight, as was March 2017's "Sapphire". Hitting Proton Music at the same time, a trio of original EPs have been spread across 2017 with "Bright Hope", "Symbol" and "My Style" all worthy of appearance on the flagship label. Now, Michael A returns to Proton with another original offering in the shape of "Aura Tears".

The title track is a beautifully sculpted piece that blossoms into a pulsating and driving anthem that is a perfect example of modern underground progressive house. Richly textured, floating pads and shining melody reveal themselves fully in the stripped breakdown before reaching a crescendo in the third movement, while a glorious bassline progression adds genuine purpose and interest in a work of great skill.

Revelling in similar melodic themes to its predecessor, "Ciklus One" is founded upon a strong rhythmic framework that supplies dancefloor interest in off-beat percussive cadence. Simultaneously a deep bass groove sparks low-end electricity while intelligent spacing within the mix and across the stereo spectrum highlights technique and mature production craft.

The final track continues the melodic tropes of earlier work as textured pads and shimmering motifs emerge over the seven-minute journey that coruscates brilliantly at the mid-point breakdown. Binding rhythm and melody together with bassline glue, a sublime groove keeps dynamism high accompanied by deep kick and ticking percussion.

Three new tracks find tears of joy rooted in Michael A's aura.

An artist with sizeable success across his South American home, Juan Deminicis has been at the vanguard of the underground dance scene for a decade. Proton Music is therefore delighted to welcome him back with "Life on the Moon".

Hailing from the bustling, cosmopolitan Buenos Aries capital, Deminicis sought inspiration from a host of leading names including Nick Warren, James Zabiela and fellow countryman, Hernan Cattaneo. Quickly finding his feet in the clubs of his hometown and across the country, the Argentinean became an established figure with performances at Bahrein, Fruta and Club Nina.

In tandem, a production career has been no less impressive. Over 270 release credits can thus be found against the Juan Deminicis name for a plethora of high-calibre imprints including Click, Lost and Found and Sudbeat. Indeed, the "Babel" EP was a notable highlight for the Cattaneo led imprint in early 2016 as was August 2018's "Umbra" for Dutch label, Click Records.

Supported across the clubs of the world by leading lights that include Guy J, Nick Warren and John Digweed, Deminicis has been a regular on Proton Music with a 2012 debut alongside Pablo Acenso coming in the shape of "Downshifting"; the stunning "Behind the Sun" EP coming a year later. Remixed by Guy Mantzur, Khen and James Monro has kept Juan Deminicis at the cutting edge of underground dance. Returning in March 2018 to remix GMJ's "Push Through", we are privileged to welcome Juan Deminicis back to the label.

The title track is a beautifully crafted affair that evolves effortlessly over its near eight-minute voyage. Strong beat and cavernous bassline, coupled with offbeat shaker pattern, create an epic bouncing groove that lays the perfect foundation for a swathe of analogue melodies to shimmer and sparkle in freeform patterns. Full of dancefloor credentials, delay and reverb create a spacious effect that truly gives rise to "Life on the Moon".

Partner track, "Tao the King" immediately makes its mark with huge bouncing bassline and techno rhythm. Redolent in white-noise effects, a sublime motif filters into sonic range as an analogue lead fills the airwaves with crystal clarity and an updated retro vibe creates a series of textured layers that resonate with Vangelis and a rich sci-fi scoundscape. Hitting its stride in the third movement with detuned arpeggio, the resultant track is a modern sonic masterpiece.

With two new tracks forming a new musical landscape, Juan Deminicis can be rightfully proud of "Life on the Moon".

Our Dutch friend Jaap Ligthart then weighs in with ‘Fubar’, a track so on point it’s shameful. Driving, enigmatic and melodically abstract. The sound of now.

Brisboys & Richie Blacker - Trap Nap (Alfonso Muchacho Remix)

Continuing to showcase new talent, Soundteller Records welcomes Brunoh to the label for his debut EP. The Argentinean artist first appeared in February of this year with an EP courtesy of Clinique Recordings. The progressive minded two tracker remains his only release to date and proved to be a great introduction to fans of the genre. Now landing on Soundteller, Brunoh continues his journey with the two track ‘Empatia’ EP.

The title track finds the Argentine collaborating with vocalist Jessica Dorado for a spellbinding progressive cut. A full, chugging groove and bulbous beats sit at the foundation, while clattering percussion and retro arps unite above. Timely effects add detail and depth at opportune moments across the first act, before the main break introduces a spoken word vocal to further the tracks intrigue. This storyboard carries across an unassuming drop before a wave of spacey arps highlight the final movement. For the less vocally inclined there is also a dub provided as well.

The companion piece ‘Arpeggio’ comes in a touch smoother with a sleek yet bulbous groove underpinning warm overlays and fuzzy arps. Remarkably smooth and groovy, it’s fluid rhythms and and pleasing design work amazingly well together. Ethereal overlays make for a charming break, adding a touch of anticipation as a smooth rush ushers in a rolling finale. It caps off two stunning tracks from Brunoh who makes a great Soundteller debut and continues a promising start to his production career. Don’t miss it.
