An artist renowned for his attention to detail and magnificently equipped studio, Petar Dundov has been at the vanguard of the techno genre in all its guises and within the wider canon of Melodic and Progressive House. Already featuring on such esteemed imprints as SCI+TEC, Cocoon Recordings and Sudbeat Music, December 2020's "Salvation / Nature of Nature" EP was a glorious Proton debut. Now following up with another pair of original tracks, "Spark" is redolent in all the trademark features that make Dundov such a respected figure. Through heavy beat, rolling percussive groove and hypnotic bass phrase, sparkling synth motifs gently work across the 9-minute piece in unencumbered fashion. A stripped back breakdown adds further texture and effects before the shimmering melodic sequences take centre stage in the second half. "Day Unseen" provides immediate energy via a syncopated synth motif that provides further intrigue through open filters, modulation and note placement. A clicking, tom-infused percussive groove supplies innovation as a new melody makes its way to the fore and additional strings create a smooth counterpoint to the elements introduced in the first half.

A powerful force withing the house and techno genre movements, BLANCAh, continues to hit the sweet spot with an immaculate blend of melodic components fused to dynamic and powerful dancefloor rhythms. A debut on the renowned Steyoyoke in 2014 signalled the Brazilian's intent as a panoply of original music found its way on to the likes of Lost on You, Sprout and Renaissance Records. The latter bore witness to her debut full-length album in May 2020 with the outstanding "Arias of Sky". Making her Proton Music debut, the BLANCAh remix is a wonderful interpretation that intelligently makes use of Dundov's components while introducing an array of her own production material. The result is a stunning interpretation which bristles with vibrancy as analogue synth lines infused with white-noise, reverb and delay, ripple across the stereo spectrum with ease backed by a chest-thumping kick and elegant percussion.

Regularly seeing his music featured on the likes of Meanwhile, 3rd Avenue and Clinique with a variety of original and remix production material, Imran Khan has shone brightly through 2018's "Arrival" EP on Particles, while August 2019's "Organik" and November's "Sunsweat" EPs continued his story on Proton Music. Remixes for GMJ, Dmitry Molosh and Michael A for the latter, have continued to showcase a burgeoning talent as the UK star now works his magic on "Spark". Characterised by a hefty rhythmic groove and seismic bassline, growling synth lines swim across the stereo spectrum as delayed percussive hits and ticking hats supply hypnotic energy. Evolving with elegance, pads and effects are introduced as pitched variations on the original's central motifs bend and echo into the distance in intriguing fashion. The result is an innovative and dramatic interpretation with its roots firmly in Petar Dundov's "Spark".

A "Spark" of ingenuity sees Petar Dundov light up Proton Music once again aided by iridescent remixes from BLANCAh and Imran Khan.

Operating out of his Arizona home, Brenden LaBonte has consistently found himself at the forefront of a distinctive underground house sound with his Forerunners soubriquet. An advocate of the ‘quality over quantity’ maxim and a sound that is full of maturity and quality, the US artist has seen his music allied to a plethora of high-profile imprints that include Anjunadeep, Silk Music, and Black Hole Recordings.
 
Now returning to GMJ & Matter’s flagship imprint after a spell-binding interpretation of Mike Isai’s “Home” in July 2021, Meanwhile’s 21st release sees Forerunners open his “Ancient Methods” EP with the mesmerising title track. Full of melodic poise and rhythmic interplay, a driving beat and tight off-beat percussion heralds a dynamic opening before a mechanic bassline and syncopated groove create the foundation for delicate motifs to lilt their way across the 8-minute track with ease. Delay-infused effects and pitched synth add to the aural atmosphere at the breakdown as a sustained pad holds sway throughout to create a subtle tension and hypnotic vibe.
 
The complex rhythmic foundation that infuses the oxymoronic “Light in the Darkness” is a powerful forerunner for the deep melodic melange to follow. As running bassline and swirling effects build, a dizzying breakdown of looped arpeggio provides sonic intrigue and bright, uplifting zenith. Exploding into the third movement, an hypnotic melody sits against oppressive bass and rhythm to create a magical track.
 
Continuing the dark rhythmic narrative of its predecessors, “Valis” provides another sonic tapestry filled with texture and innovation. Beneath a ticking percussive groove and chest-thumping kick, an effects-laden and pitched oscillator bassline reveal themselves across the 6-minute offering as a mesmerising arp creates a powerful melodic presence in the mid-range. Science-fiction inspired effects that the Future Sound of London would be proud of, infuse the breakdown as the second half drops into the huge bass-heavy underpinning once more.

HI-LO, the techno alter-ego of Oliver Heldens debuts on Drumcode with a full-force two-tracker ‘Hypnos’. Unbeknown to many, the Dutch future house star has been cultivating a love of techno separate from his mainstage persona. As HI-LO, he’s remixed Nina Kraviz’s ‘Skyscrapers’ and released on Octopus and Filth on Acid, the latter consisting of collaborations with Reinier Zonneveld, T78 and Will Clarke.
Over the last 12 months, HI-LO has become the sixth highest selling Techno artist on Beatport, as well as cemented his place as a top streaming act in the genre.

His Drumcode debut ‘Hypnos’ is effective and infectious in equal doses. The title track is led by a catchy bass groove that espouses plenty of personality and is a handy tool for building energy throughout the night. ‘Hera’ is a straight-edged euphoric gem, driven by an uplifting key riff throughout.

Save this name: Braulio Renteria, a young Mexican artist, makes his official debut as a producer on the awe-inspiring project Sinchi Collective – a multifaceted music platform that includes a label, a DJ collective, an event promoter, a mix series and a blog. The Collective also established the Sinchi Foundation, which is a non-profit that upholds the UN’s declaration on the rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and promotes the strength and beauty of indigenous cultures.

Regarding their third release, Altered States Vol. I is a various artists compilation that shows off the label’s broad array of sounds of producers from all over the world. The track we chose to premiere, ‘Venus’, is a “moody, heavyweight cut with punky attitude and cosmic keys”, the right elements “for a real trip”, according to the label’s description.

We asked “Braulitro” to say a few words about himself and his work: "My inspiration when creating tracks with this energy comes from my influences and experience in the DJ booth, my style is defined by many as dynamic, full of funny percussions and organic sounds, like guitars and wind instruments. I have always been passionate about music, especially the alternative rock, and science fiction movies, and that is exactly what I wanted to reflect on 'Venus', the energy of my DJ sets, my taste for music and an extra-terrestrial sensation as a sci-fi film". And he successfully did it!
