Madloch’s Sound Avenue enters 2022’s second quarter by welcoming Jean Calliou back to the label for a new EP. First emerging in 2016, the Swiss artist quickly established himself with releases via Magician On Duty, RYNTH, Sag & Tre and Underyourskin Records, where his deep, melodious sound flourished. Moving forward, July of 2019 saw the Zurich resident make his Sound Avenue debut with a well-received remix of Joe Miller’s ‘The Days’. Deep and enchanting in equal measure, its organic vibe immediately won over DJs and fans alike, sparking what has been a fruitful relationship between the Belgian imprint and Swiss artist. Now on the strength of 2021’s ‘Departure Unknown’, Jean makes a welcome return to Sound Avenue with a sprawling five-track showcase entitled ‘Simplon’.

Beginning with the title selection, Jean furthers the sentiment that his compositions drift above the rest of existence. Whether it’s the hauntingly layered musical fragments or the sleek, meditative framework which houses his dusty percussive arrangements, there is a whimsical lean to his work that you just can’t ignore. The deliberate groove and haunting vocal phrases of ‘Down’ find Jean at his creative best. Perhaps less direct than some of his previous work, the end result is one of equal depth, where notes ring out in timeless suspension, resonating against a backdrop of colourful electronics. Meanwhile, ‘Feathered Serpent’ lightens the mood with its charismatic charm and laid back, yet youthful exuberance. Jean’s masterful coaxing of incandescent tones, soulful plucks and rolling organics fuels what is a charming eight-minute jaunt. 

Bypassing the collection’s halfway point are the slow burning vibes of ‘Hora’. Four minutes of glacial grooves and shape-shifting textures put the listener in a tranquil state, only to go further down the meditative rabbit hole as thoughtful vocal fragments and drone-like lines emerge for a suitably spaced-out finale. ‘Myst’ sits as the collection's most heartfelt composition and appropriately lands as its fifth and final selection. Wavy arps, fluttery sonics and creamy piano stabs unite for a reflective storyboard, one which invites you to surrender to its captivating power and ultimately puts a stamp on this resounding collection.

Figueras is a duo formed by the DJs & Producers Andy Figueras & Elias Figueras Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Two brothers that share the same passion, taste, and love for music. With their passive-aggressive sound including melodies and groove, the Figueras brothers managed to earn a place on the scene by participating in the most important events that take place nowadays.

Nikko.Z's Dopamine White opens the summer season by welcoming Shanil Alox to the label for his debut single. Hailing from the electronic music mecca of Sri Lanka, Shanil Alox first emerged in 2017 and was quickly applauded for his groovy progressive sound. Praised by the genre's tastemakers and fans alike, the next half decade saw the Colombo resident showcase his music via Droid9, Nature Rec, SLC-6 Music and more. Continuing on an upwards trajectory, Shanil now adds Dopamine White to his resume with 'I'm Too Weird', alongside remixes from NOIYSE PROJECT and Hobin Rude. 

Destined to be a highlight in Shanil's discography, it is the atmospheric stylings of the original mix which get the release underway. Rhythmically charged from the outset, its undulating cadence, striking percussion and character rich groove set the piece on a course for aural enlightenment. Meandering atmospheres and sweeping effects rise across the first act, carrying momentum and mood into the main break. Panning chord stabs and indistinct vocals delight across the centrepiece, creating a moment of calm, as a classy crescendo of effects spark a tasteful drop and groove-centric finale. 

Returning to the label and providing the first interpretation of 'I'm Too Weird' is NOIYSE PROJECT. Rising out of Sri Lanka's progressive house scene, NOIYSE PROJECT took inspiration from the likes of Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren to become one of the genre's most sought after artists. Releases via The Soundgarden and Sudbeat Music sit as discography highlights across the last two calendar years, while he has continued to delight fans with his impeccable taste and programming skills as a DJ. Moving forward, 2022 has proven to be a breakout year for the Colombo resident. On the strength of projects for his Till The Sunrise imprint, NOIYSE PROJECT has risen to Beatport's #3 best-selling progressive house hype producer, paving the way for what promises to be an even brighter future. Now as 2022 nears its third quarter, NOIYSE PROJECT returns to Dopamine White with a stellar remix of 'I'm Too Weird'. Taking a cue from the Original, the Sri Lankan artist carves out a dynamic groove adorned with detailed percussive arrangements, enlightening textures and rolling rhythmic themes. Airy arps emerge as the first movement takes shapes, adding a meditative quality to its dance floor inspired framework, while timely drops and rugged chord stabs add energy and swing. His progressive sounds quickly found favour with the genre's tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, eventually leading to forthcoming projects via The Soundgarden and Plattenbank. Now on the strength of a contribution to Sound Avenue's popular 'Correlation' series, the Belgrade resident adds Dopamine White to his portfolio with an emotive take on 'I'm Too Weird'. Engaging from the outset, warm beats and undulating pulses converge for a sultry foundation, while crisp percussion and aquatic stabs bring rhythm and texture to the groove. Searching for a deeper emotion as the main break takes shape, Hobin juxtaposes melancholic chord changes with evolving atmospheres for transcendent moments, while his perfectly sculpted groove returns amidst a rush of drums, to translate that message to the dance floor. A deep and powerful remix from Hobin, which rounds out a must have Dopamine White debut from Shanil Alox. Don't miss it.

Like a soothing voice from the past, nostalgia signifies a sense of yearning for what was, perhaps even for what was lost. It’s an emotionally tainted view back onto bygone times, carrying both melancholy and solace in remembrance of the lost qualities we prescribe to them.

For his interpretation of nostalgia, the Melbourne-based Elliott Creed created an interplay of filled and open space within his track 'Depth of Emotions’. A careful choice of expressive synths and echoing cymbals build up to a fully immersive soundscape, just to then collapse into a minimalistic and airy moment, offering space for memories of nostalgia to arise and linger while the build-up starts anew. The perfect tune to hypnotize a dreamy crowd on a foggy festival morning.

A Colombian of rare quality and distinction, Kamilo Sanclemente has been a force to be reckoned with via his "Beyond the Future" series. A trio of new track opens "Vol. 4". Joined by Fernanda Olaya on the powerful rhythmic force of "Empty Spaces"., a bouncing bassline is soon accompanied by a beautifully ethereal synth line. Textured pads contribute to an unhurried feel before a sparkling arp and haunting vocal enters at the mid-point. The result is a progressive house tour de force that adds more melodic layers and effects post-breakdown to dramatic effect. A darker vibe exudes from "Dissension" with its steady beat and hypnotic bass sequence. Melodic layers fill the mid-range as a filtered arp rises and falls with the bass pattern. New motifs make their presence felt at the stripped back mid-point as they shimmer and undulate into the second half rhythmic melange. The final offering sees Kamilo and Zalvador create a wonderful "Coalition". Trademark synth lines combine with a heavy beat and rolling percussive groove as filtered motifs and running melodies cascade off each other in bright sonic patterns. Converging half-way, a series of effects and white noise fills sit behind the melodic patterns as the dynamic rhythm creates an immaculate and club-friendly finale.

Danny Bonnici is a name requiring little introduction to the underground dance fraternity. A legendary figure and part of the triumvirate that made up the NuBreed act, the Australian star has gone on to achieve notable success under his own name for over a decade. Collaborations with fellow countryman, Luke Chable, have garnered much success as have releases for the likes of Open Records, Balance Music and John Digweed's Bedrock. Making his Proton Music debut, the Danny Bonnici remix of Kamilo Sanclemente & Mauro Aguirre's "Ambar" is a sparkling, haunting gem that resonates with melodic themes found in the original while a swathe of effects and new production material showcases precisely why the Australian is such a revered figure. Hitting its stride post-breakdown, a glorious new sustained bassline glides across the driving rhythmic foundation while pads and intermittent keys add depth to mesmeric interpretation.

Proton favourites, Trilucid, have mined a rich seam with a trademark sound that sees them sat regularly atop the progressive house charts. Through 2019's "Glint", 2020's "Astral" and July 2022's remarkable "The Loved Are Never Lost", The UK duo have harnessed a glorious sound that speaks volumes for their production prowess. Remixes for Pole Folder, Stas Drive and Petar Dundov have illustrated their credentials as they return to rework Kamilo Sanclemente's "Innocense", written with Giovanny Aparicio. Harnessing the rich melodic vibe, Trilucid have transformed the earworm motif of the original by encasing it within a crisp new rhythmic shell and nourishing it with a shimmering array of new counterpoint melodies that sit effortlessly alongside as though they were destined to be together. The result is a sublime club gem that waxes and wanes with dancefloor know-how, the epitome of exquisite modern progressive house.

Hitting the heights for a timely fourth time, "Beyond The Future" continues to show the way forwards.

It’s been two decades since Bradford-born sound designer & Configurations of Self label head,
Alexander Church, first found resonance with his latest collaborator & early supporter from Belfast.
Joining him for Configurations 18 is seasoned producer Chris Cargo as well as label mainstay, juSt b, and
frequent guest remixer, Vincenzo.

With a production career commencing in the late 90s, Cargo has nearly 200 releases on labels such as
The Soundgarden, JOOF, & Mango Alley, and most recently on his own imprint, If You Wait, with his 2nd
full length album ‘Resistance’.

Kicking off the new 4-tracker is a sultry yet dusky breaks cut from Church & Cargo titled ‘Avoidant’,
themed around the enduring pattern of escapism from difficult thoughts, feelings, and situations. Its
glistening, brooding pad fused with warm dubby bass and a poignant stabbing broken rhythm guides
you mysteriously into an extended introspective break. Enveloped by somber atmospherics and a soft
acid-tinged cosmic synth line, its a shadowy narrative one can easily find themselves lost in.

Next up we see recent Bedrock & Balance artist, juSt b, offering up a seductive vocal on ‘Impulsivity’, a
raw percussive groover which gets straight to the point - creating a perfect synergy with the underlying
psychological theme of swift, unbridled behaviour patterns. The flirtatious vox is complimented by an
equally playful chord progression, catchy knocking drums, and trademark warping synth, laying the
ground for what is one of Church’s more vibrant & sexy of dance-driven productions.

Just as he did with Configurations 16’s ‘Games People Play’, Berlin-based Vincenzo takes Church’s
composition & juSt b’s sensual vocal chops and reworks ‘Impulsivity’ into a blissful daytime festival
sparkler, richly laden with his classic soulful piano, adding a layer of tremendous depth to another superb
remix.

The final track, ‘Forbidden Substance’, is the second from Cargo & Church, delighting the deep melodic
house lovers with a delicately carnal, spaced-out and slightly more visceral vibe. Subtle vox & warm
organic percussion are bathed in lush synth sweeps, making it a perfect dreamy sun-riser or sun-setter.
Configurations 18 brings together all the elements of a deliciously well-rounded EP, generous in
dimension with high appeal for even the most discerning of ears and dance floors.

"Following up to his maiden transmission for the label, "Cosmic Silence", issued a year ago, Italian producer Alessandro Cozzolino AKA Cioz resurfaces on Stil vor Talent with his longed-for debut album "Supermassive Whole" - a ten-track cosmic odyssey in sound percolating staple elements of Cioz's palette of choice, from otherworldly techno to Latin-inflected house, via the obvious injection of kosmische and electronica soundscaping.

The lead single "Wachaka" - recorded in collaboration with Cape Town producer Ryan Murgatroyd, exemplifies Cozzolino's electrifying approach to a T. An inch-perfectly balanced mix of Afro-infused polyrhythmic bravura and seesawing synth moves, the track swells with a blazing fire at heart that keeps on sprawling infectiously with each and every bar. Trading the linear buildup for most sensuous levels of syncopation, "Me Monkey" serves up a warmer kind of funk, perfect for getting snug and cozy before an avalanche of seesawing chords up the ante towards space-opera-esque amplitude. All in elusive sinuosity and processed machine talk, "Harakat" dwells the confines of wonky house templates and polyamorous EBM, while "I Always Wanted To..." goes the slo-burning, counterclockwise route, primed for languid moments in the alcove.

"B1" is perhaps the most spitting avatar of the Italian whiz's hybrid rolling-and-pounding rhythmic style, nicely embodying both its quirky, hip-swaying and fanfare-like percussive aspects. The ecstatically bouncy "Do It The Way You Feel" showcases Cioz's more rousing, floor-friendly facet with a killer combo of hi-octane electro dynamics, pop-rock motif'd hooks and slashing breaks taking the controls. The mood also happens to be melancholic at times, such as on the beautifully understated "Is This Real", which bridges the gap betwixt piano-house déjà-vu - here tweaked to distinctively soul-wrenching effect, and a prog buildup glossed under a thick sauce of FX, similar to that of "Sudpol Birgit"'s inflating saturation in the post-prod treatment. Somewhat brushed with balearic shades in mind, "Pace e Amore" follows a more classic curve, slowly veering off onto ambient-laced territories, while "Lost in Space" evokes a certain idea of gravity-defying plenitude through that ever intuitive and subtly arranged collage of tender wistfulness and endless attraction towards the groove, which defines Cozzolino's phraseology so fittingly."
