Release Info:
Manual Music kicks off 2017 with something truly special. Nearly a decade after it’s initial release on Deep Focus, ‘Been Here Before’ by Guy J gets a remix treatment by Namatjira. These are not just a couple of new remixes, but these were born out of the idea to create an ode to Jerry van Schie, co-label owner of Deep Records and Deep Focus, and driving force behind the Groovecollection brand who passed away in 2016 after losing his fight to cancer.

In the words of Namatjira: 'After the funeral of Jerry I was thinking I wanted to do something musical to honor Jerry with. It took me a few to know what I wanted. When I opened the old Deep (Jerry & Peter’s label) catalogue there was immediately one track that caught my attention, ‘Been Here Before’ by Guy J. I contacted Peter to see if he was willing to share the parts with me and he agreed immediately with me. 

I started working on the track and made two versions. I told Guy the story and let him listen to the sketches I had made and together we made a final choice. Then I finished the instrumental and contacted Ben “Royal Sapien” Mautner if he wanted to give the vocal parts his touch to make it work with my instrumental. 

When we both were satisfied the first big bump I had to take was to talk to Jerry’s brother and hoped he would feel the remix. He defenilty felt it and contacted Jerry’s wife. Later that week I had her on the phone and she told me she cried during the complete song, I had goosebumps all over my body and a lump in my throat.’

All proceeds for this release will go to Jerry’s wife to donate to whatever charity cause she feels appropriate.

The original track by Budakid exploits the dreamy side of the artist's aesthetic. A walk through a landscape of lush textures and poetic melodic elements.

The in-demand Armen Miran steps up on remix duties, a man always on top of his game. His remix grabs your attention from the off with its tight bassline and vibrant clap fills, giving his re-creation a classic deep house feel. The track delivers a subtle expansion of the original sounds, whilst locking you under its magical spell.

Closing out the EP, Hicky & Kalo finds a beautiful opportunity to exploit the melancholic side of the track with a dive into the deepness of its soul. Cid Inc's Replug Records caps off a successful year by welcoming Dmitry Molosh back to the label for a new artist showcase. The Belarus native and progressive music favourite rounded out 2018 with his chart topping 'Detektor' EP for the Finnish imprint. 2019 has seen further successes, with EP's for Guy J's Armadillo Records and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music sitting as the highlights. Now fresh off a contribution to Nick Warren's Balance compilation, Dmitry lands back on Replug with 'Cascade'.

Firmly sitting amongst progressive music's elite, Dmitry continues to deliver some of the genre's most beloved tracks with 'Cascade' being the latest in a long line of gems. Fuelled by rhythm and groove; it's chunky foundation, driving percussion and buoyant rhythmic core form the backbone of this exhilarating journey. Panning effects and emerging atmopheres smoothly segue into the main break, shifting the narrative further into melodic territory. Sitting comfortably in an ethereal yet emotive space, the lead motif rises, resonating on a warm and inviting frequency, gently evolving across a foggy atmospheric backdrop, before a gentle rush sparks a thrilling final act.

The companion piece 'Step By Step' follows suit with an equally impressive display of rhythm and groove. Spacious and energetic, it's a creation built around rolling bass tones and vibrant chord stabs. Ethereal phrases and buzzing effects converge as the first act unfolds, while colourful vocal fragments shift energy into the break. Timely modulation adds drama and tension across the one minute interlude, ultimately reaching a swirling crescendo and perfectly setting up a powerful third act.

Dmitry's long standing relationship with Replug has spawned several of progressive music's finest moments over the last half decade. 'Cascade' once again follows suit and looks set to be one of the winter seasons most in demand releases.
