"Finding his groove on Meanwhile with a clutch of impressive productions, Alex O’Rion has been a regular on GMJ and Matter’s best-selling imprint. Reaching a highpoint with May 2020’s “Echium” EP, we now return to O’Rion’s seminal work with remixes from a trio of outstanding artists.
 
And iconic name within the underground dance industry, Eelko Wijnja has forged a distinctive and innovative sound through his Navar soubriquet. A regular on the likes of Guy J’s Lost & Found, Roger Martinez’s Higher States and Cid Inc.’s Replug, the Dutch star makes his Meanwhile debut with a typically rich and evocative interpretation of “The Chase” that flows gloriously across its near 8-minute journey. Built upon deep kick and rolling arpeggiated synth line, familiar motifs from O’Rion’s original float into sonic range as deeply textured pads and evolving percussive groove wend their way forwards in delicate fashion. An array of sumptuous additional production, courtesy of deep bass and sympathetic new melodies, make their presence felt as the track explodes into the second movement with dancefloor grace. The result is a dynamic interpretation that places Navar at the upper echelons of dance music royalty.
 
Another familiar name to the Meanwhile cognoscenti, Simos Tagias made an impact via his March 2021 twin-track “Euphoria / Emotion” EP, before September saw a remix of Imran Khan’s “Horizonz”. A veteran of over 400 production credits dating back to a debut for Lynx Records in late 2012, the Greek artist now reworks “Echium” with typical aplomb. Taking the machine-gun hi-hat pattern of the original and a 16th note bass sequence, the meandering melodic themes of O’Rion’s work resonate across a dynamic rhythmic framework. With raw, seething power, Tagias builds intensity that pauses for breath at a haunting breakdown, drenched in reverbs, delays and the stunning motif central to “Echium”, before exploding into the third movement with shimmering effervescence and club-friendly groove.
 
The final remix sees another Meanwhile favourite enter the fray. An artist who has grown in stature with a slew of releases on the likes of onedotsixtwo, MNL and Proton Music, Sebastian Sellares hit the ground running in April 2021 with his “Dunes at Dawn” EP. This musical triptych showcased the Argentinian’s skill and artistry, while a remix of GMJ’s “Precipice” two months later was another label highlight. Working his production magic on “The Serpent”, Sebastian Sellares has found a way to illuminate the musical phrasing of the original while creating a spotlight that shines on an array of new production material, simultaneously driving the track forward with potent rhythmic force and effortless bassline presence. The result is a searing lead line, rooted in O’Rion’s original, that cuts its way through the second half with acetylene precision, perfectly illustrating Sellares’ sought-after production credentials.
 
Growing in stature with a trio of towering new remixes from Navar, Simos Tagias and Sebastian Sellares, Alex O’Rion blossoms once again with “Echium”."

Presenting their second release of the year, Eat My Hat Music unveils a new single from Ziger and Mind Conspiracy. 2021 saw the Greek duo flex their collaborative powers, teaming up for two well-received singles entitled ‘Your Way’ and ‘Bitter Sweet’, which landed in February and December respectively. With the latter holding a place in the label’s top five best sellers on Beatport, Eat My Hat boss Ziger has orchestrated a third and much anticipated joint project with Mind Conspiracy entitled ‘The Light’, alongside a remix from label artist Eleven Of July. 

Beginning with the Original Mix, Ziger and Mind Conspiracy demonstrate just how strong their creative synergy has become. Led by a smooth groove, sleek rhythms and astral synth stylings, its cosmic nature captivates from the outset. Warm and inviting across the first act, a melodic sensibility rises as flickering sonics and sweeping effects blanket the charged groove. Stripping down into the main break, the duo digs further into their emotive repertoire, by introducing colourful arps and a heartfelt vocal, resulting in the ultimate dance floor moment, before eventually giving way to a rush of drums for a euphoric finale. 

Returning to the label and providing the lone interpretation of ‘The Light’ is August Proto aka Eleven Of July. November of last year marked the Italian artist’s Eat My Hat debut with a three-track showcase entitled ‘Fearless’. Now embarking on his fifth year as professional producer, August has continued to go from strength to strength, landing releases via Awen Recordings, Beyond Now, Movement Recordings and Us and Them Records, while earning the praise of &ME, Dj Tennis, Dubfire, Undercatt and more. Continuing to build a bond with Eat My Hat as 2022 takes shape, Eleven Of July now returns to the label with a powerful rendition of ‘The Light’. Fluid and groovy in equal measure, it’s a mix that carries the sensibility of the original, while adding more of a melodic techno vibe through tougher beats, unique sonic artifacts and otherworldly effects. Building beautifully into the break, shimmering arps and a ghostly vocal take centrestage, adding further to its emotive sensibility, before a billowing drop spearheads a glowing finale. A stunning rendition from the fast-rising Italian artist, rounding out another must have offering from Ziger’s Eat My Hat Music.

Guy J is at the forefront of a movement towards the melody-rich and emotionally charged roots of the house music spectrum. Hes a young, innovative producer, DJ and live act, whose infectious production talents resulted in his amazing 3CD artist album (1000 Words) being acclaimed as one of the musical highlights of 2011. Now, three of the albums standout tracks have been remixed alongside a brand new track, to form the hottest package you could hope for to start the year in style.

Shining showcases the extraordinary talents of Guy J, from its beautifully subtle melodic intro, through a blossoming, journey-like arrangement with a highly emotive core, this is a masterful brand new track.

On 1000 Words as the mood moves towards deep, throbbing intensity, with lights down low, My Thought Of You turns up the energy levels and gets a little twisted, as Guy J pushes emotion buttons, exploring the psyche of the dance, exploring possibilities, forging ahead into the future. When you have interests ranging from cosmology and marine biology, to the social impact of the rave generation, you tend to make unusual art and Sian stands out as a little more bohemian than the average electronic talent. Adhering more to the avant-garde side of club culture, his tracks develop an otherworldly, and hypnotic slant on techno. His reworking of My Thought Of You is yet another exceptional example of creative genius at work.

The gorgeous, heavenly vocals of Miriam Vaga feature on 3 tracks on 1000 Words with Fly providing a stunning finale to CD1, an amazing collection of the more eclectic and experimental side of Guy Js music. The original version can only be described as a listening experience that has been heaven sent, so there was only one possible choice to remix such beauty.

Since they first burst onto the scene with the now classic album Wide Angle in 1999, Hybrid have been known as one of the most forward thinking and technically skilled acts in electronic dance music. Before hotfooting it over to Hollywood to work on the soundtrack for the new Terminator movie, they have made time to work their magic on Fly, and remixes dont come much bigger than this!

The heavenly atmospherics of Detroit techno bring 1000 Words to a close with the moody magnificence of Azimuth, which has been boldly taken into a new dimension by Bedrock remix competition winner, Kassey Voorn, from Athens, Greece.
