Kasey Taylor and Chris Meehan - Simplicity (Gai Barone Remix) Snippet

Launching their Meanwhile Horizons imprint with suitable flair in August 2021 with “Beyond The Horizon”. Initially through a quartet of sparkling tracks, GMJ & Matter return to the series with a second edition. Seven new pieces now showcase the talents of established and newcomers alike within “Beyond The Horizon Volume 2”.

Fresh from his “We Are One” EP for Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden, Zankee Gulati opens the compilation with the atmospheric “The Magic Spoon”. Redolent in rolling percussive groove and thickly textured pads, a rippling arpeggio paves the way for a laconic lead synth to meander across the 9-minute piece, taking centre stage at the breakdown. Typically deep and brooding, Meanwhile regular, Imran Khan, highlights a raft of production magic within “Serenity”. Immaculately woven sonic patterns meander across the aptly named track as modulated pads and layered sequences mingle deliciously together. A heavy beat and regular off-beat percussion add to the trademark mesmerising vibe.

Following up on September 2022’s “Space Walk” EP, Covsky joins forces with newcomer, Frais, as the pair hit the ground running with “Sands of Time”. Full of emotion, a wonderful sub-bass groove creates a flawless foundation for a suite of elegant melodic layers to weave an imaginative sonic picture, reaching a rousing crescendo at the mid-point before bursting into life in the second half. A Horizons debutant, Federico Puentes, paints an evocative aural landscape as “Autumn Leaves” delivers a meticulous percussive framework within which smooth motifs and breathy vocal counterweight, flow in repeated patterns. Pausing for breath to let the melodic elements shine, the second half continues to paint the vivid melodic patterns of earlier movements.

Another Meanwhile first-timer with releases on Mango Alley, The Soundgarden and Keyfound, Billka makes a powerful impression with his delicate “Promises”. A repeated bassline and synth motif belies its simplicity as emotion is built midway via sublime vocal sequences. Coupled with deep kick and light percussive air, the track flourishes to a masterful sonic conclusion. UK producer, Fabreeka, has witnessed an impressive rise to prominence since a 2019 debut for Mistique Music, and his “Dream Path” is full of innovative motifs that blend together to create the perfect symbiotic whole. Through strong rhythm and rolling hi-hat groove, the track reaches its zenith in the third movement to striking effect.

The final track sees GMJ return to familiar ground with his Qiam alter-ego. Making his debut on “Beyond the Horizon”, “Light Recall” is a masterfully produced ambient piece that glistens with sonic stardust. Deliciously textured pads modulate across the left/right spectrum, while discordant analogue synth patterns play out in pitched delays before powerful bassline and vocal effects lift the track through its latter stages. Intelligently imagined, a raft of layers delivers intrigue and innovation in equal measure.

Zankee Gulati - The Magic Spoon

A firm favourite of the progressive and melodic house faithful, Sebastian Sellares has consistently cast a bright light on his production credentials. With of growing body of work that has seen outstanding releases for the likes of Paul Thomas' UV, Cid Inc's Replug and GMJ & Matter's Meanwhile, Sebastian's "Jinsei / Zen State" EP was a notable Proton Music highlight in October 2020, including remixes from Matias Chilano and the iconic, Nick Muir. Now returning with a second original EP, "Conviction" is founded upon a metronomic top-line and heavy beat before filtered synths subtly enter the fray. Full of wonderful sound effects and sonic character that grabs listener attention, eerie textures add to the collage before a sublime arpeggio makes its mark. Rising and falling, it reaches a powerful crescendo in the final movement. A vibrant dynamism and shimmering melody immediately provide a lighter air to "Reverse Call". Still characterised by a familiar sonic narrative, a strong arpeggio and free-flowing synth sequence adds emotion aplenty at the breakdown before a snare roll heralds the return of a mesmerising dancefloor groove and rhythmic brio.

An artist familiar artist to the underground progressive house cognoscenti, Imran Khan has consistently created a portfolio of music that contains the musical hallmarks of a talented producer. Almost 200 production credits bear witness to that success over an 8-year period. Proton Music has played its own part in showcasing the Imran Khan sound as 2019's "Organic" and "Sunsweat" EPs testify. Remixes for the likes of LADS, GMJ, Dmitry Molosh, and Petar Dundov in late 2021 are now joined by a typically atmospheric interpretation of "Conviction". Incorporating the atmospheric textures and soundscapes of the original, Imran has turned them into a hypnotic rolling dancefloor groove that scintillates with its delayed arps and beautifully crafted counterpoint keys that drift across the breakdown landscape. The resultant combination of rhythm and melody is a tribute to the UK producer's sublime technique and innate production talent.

Subconscious Tales has always revelled in music that comes from ‘carefully crafted compositions that embrace the energy of darkness and beauty.' Able to translate this mission statement in a double century of releases, the Latvian producer has been a Proton Music regular with such standout moments as 2019's "Magnectares", 2020's "Soulreaper" and April 2022's "Experience" EPs. A portfolio bookended by remixes for David Calo in 2017 and Dabeat in mid-2022, Subconscious Tales now returns with a beautifully crafted interpretation of "Conviction" that bristles with energy and hi-hat urgency. Crafting a huge bassline groove, a familiar arpeggio from Sebastian Sellares' track makes its presence felt, building in imperceptible fizzing energy. Adding to the original, a swathe of new production material and sympathetic new melodies are grafted to original components in seamless fashion to create a majestic and powerful new remix.

Two years after the release of his 'Solar Attachment EP', George Alhabel makes his return on Manual Music's MNL label with a quality double A-sider which showcases the tracks 'Obsolete' and 'Solace'.

One of the key figures in Australia's progressive house scene, George Alhabel has released his music on famous labels such as Mango Alley, One of a Kind and UGENIUS. His productions are always quality over quantity, so you just know that whenever he releases something new it's well worth your attention. Just listen to 'Obsolete' and 'Solace' and you'll know what we're talking about.

If the two originals aren't enough for you we've added Colombian heavy weight Kamilo Sanclemente on remix duties and he brings his buddy Mauro Aguirre along for the ride.

Premiere: Yoram - Stranger Insight [Eastern Standard]

Continuing to add new talent to their roster, Nikko.Z's Dopamine White welcomes Mike Suntower to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from the UK, Mike Taylor aka Mike Suntower is perhaps best known for being a touring keyboardist with Sniff 'n' The Tears, Renaissance, The Records and Roy Hill Band. 2023 would see Mike turn his magical production touch to progressive and deep house, embarking on a solo career and in turn racking up releases via Hexagonal Music, Inception and Soundteller Records, amongst others. Now, adding Dopamine White to his resume, Mike debuts on the label with a two-track showcase entitled ‘Nirvana'.

The title track leads the release off in grand fashion and only furthers Mike's journey into the depths of progressive house. Strong kick drums and a bed of chunky bass tones provide the anchor for layers of finely tuned percussion and airy melodic fragments. Cruising with an effortless flair, there's a strong sense of flow across the first act, as retro synth phrasing steals the air, not only adding depth and character, but an emotive rise leading into a poignant break. Here, quirky motifs create a sense of anticipation and calm, eventually giving way to a tasteful build, onwards to a thunderous drop and uplifting finale.

The release concludes with the title selection 'Lost Horizon', a track which finds the British artist continuing to display unique craftsmanship. Tight kick drums and well contoured grooves set the foundation for a narrative of shimmering synth mutations and wistful overlays. Pushing a grooved-out mood into the break; Mike marries haunting vocal pads with poignant swells and orbiting effects, building tension and emotion with each successive pass, as a classy build eventually gives way to a hypnotic finale.

A new name on Magnitude Recordings as Miami based artist with Chilean roots Tomas Pablo makes his debut on Francesco Pico's well respected imprint.

With releases under his belt on labels such as Movement Recordings and Future Avenue, Tomas Pablo is definitely a name to watch as he takes the next step in his career releasing 'Rushing Back' and 'Shadow of the Moon' on the Dutch label.

Another label debutant is Mexican artist Kris Dur who many of you will surely know from his releases on labels such as The Soundgarden, MNL, Univack, Freegrant Music and countless other quality imprints. He steps up to the plate to give 'Rushing Back' his own twist and delivers a very strong remix.
