Djalu Gurruwiwi is a senior member of the Galpu clan and an internationally reknown didgeridoo maker and player. His status as a yidaki (didgeridoo) master craftsman has grown to Herculean proportions over recent years with one leading Australian newspaper proclaiming his as Arnhem Land’s latest international cult figure.
Djalu’s expertise in the way of the didgeridoo is an extension of the role handed down to him by his now deceased father, Monyu, a noted Yolngu leader in his time. Monyu instilled in his son the importance of culture and gave Djalu the responsibility of looking after the didgeridoo for the Galpu clan. This duty is all the more important when considering the fact that many clan groups throughout Arnhem Land look to the Galpu as one of the primary custodians of the instrument. And linked to the didgeridoo are many aspects of knowledge and cultural practice that are sacred, their hidden secrets religiously guarded by those in authority.

The Didgeridoo i play is from a son of David Blanasi, the first indigenous Australian who traveled 1967 to England and played there his Didgeridoo. David Blanasi went missing in August, 2001, reportedly after going out to search for wood to be used in instrument making. Newspaper coverage brought the situation into the public eye, and his disappearance generated widespread speculation and a number of rumors regarding "magical" occurrences. No trace of Blanasi has been found since 2001, but a number of spiritualists have claimed to be "in touch" with him. Although his body was never found, his family eventually held a funeral ceremony for him.

Dragon’s Eye Recordings is excited to welcome back Sublamp for his first full-length release on the label in nearly 10 years. Sublamp returns with 'Sister Maps'—a collection of parallel songs, parallel in time but separated by space. Inspired by a three-week tour of recording live episodes of 'Comedy Bang Bang' through 19 cities, Sublamp contemplates the impossibility of knowledge or understanding place when presented with only fleeting glimpses of it. Each track covers the same twelve minutes as if it had been captured simultaneously in six locations across an imaginary city. 

All the tracks on 'Sister Maps' influence each other in subtle ways. Sounds wander between or bleed through into the background, while other recordings maintain isolated independence. While listening to an album is generally a linear experience, Sublamp’s (accidental) choice to flow each song seamlessly into the next complicates the idea of placing works in parallel. The listening experience transforms, like moving through space while a möbius strip of the same twelve minutes repeats around you, or like meandering through an unfamiliar city with only your personal experience available to understand it. 

A city is not linear. A map shows only a space delineated, but not what occurs within that space. The borders of a city exist in both space and in time, which make it impossible to know a place completely. Wherever you are, there is always something happening somewhere else, simultaneously. An experience in parallel with your own.

testing out the more, mmm, mellow? side of the non linear circuits 'digital filter simulator' (DFS)

patch notes: a noodle from sheep caught in the morphagene, which is then multed out to clouds in parasite granular (pitched all the way down) as well as the DFS (which is also being hit with purple + white noise mixed at the second input) + polivoks vcf (bandpass out) combo. this duo is crossfaded between each other and then randomly panned in the stereo field along with a second sheep noodle caught in the modcan cv record, quanta noise  and white noise. modulation spread out across the whole mess via 3 channels of random from batumi and maths ch1 through let's splosh (which is also cross modulating batumi and maths for extra weirdness)

last thing to note i suppose, is the DFS is not receiving a clock at its clock input, but rather using the morphagene loop as its clock due to internal normalization (or so says the panel?) the DFS gets more and more sputtery here the closer the rate knob reaches 0
