Rhys Christie and James Woodcock are more commonly known together as Tephra & Arkoze. They are an Electronic Music DJ/Producer collaboration from North London with 15 years mixing experience between them. 

Since late 2011 production has been the main focus with influences from all spectrums of music. This year they have cooked up 4 monster tracks of mayhem in the form of their Contrast EP. The deep and dark depths of this Extended Player will instantly perk your ears up and have you wanting more from them! Be sure to check it out!

‘Black Heart’ lives up to its name in every single sense. We’d say ‘it does what it says on the tin’ but there is no tin, just an incredible sense of foreboding ghostly doom. Darkness soars through each eastern wail while the rich bassline drives deep into the groove, doubling up towards the builds for extra drama. Peppered with nuances of neuro funk, once again Frankee has shown an understanding of drum & bass dynamics that belies his young years. 

For the ultimate switch-flipper, head to ‘Wonderland’. The complete contrast to ‘Black Heart’, here we find the London producer paying the ultimate homage to drum & bass jungle’s earliest rave carnations. With vibrant, euphoric piano licks, skippy breakbeats and subs so heavy they need their own passport, ‘Wonderland’ is a quintessential example of contemporary rave. As for the emphatic vocal? We can all agree with its sentiments. Music is indeed wonderful – especially when it’s being written by the likes of Frankee.

We’re pleased to welcome back the extremely talented Need For Mirrors duo back to the Dispatch camp.  

Here they strike completely on the money with the hard hitting Funk-led “Sling Blade” and backing up the A side we have a heavy slice of Bristol themed flavour for 2013 with “Grapefruit” (plus an additional extended digital-only version).  Both tracks present a clear nod to the old school and inspirational late 90’s sounds we always loved (but never left!).

Need For Mirrors prove again with this release that they are quite simply on a roll both as individual artists that make up the NFM duo and in their own individual right, definitely ones to watch for the rest of 2013 and beyond.

Seattle trio Quadrant, Kid Hops, & Iris deliver two inspired and relentless grooves for Dispatch LTD. These three are on a roll right now, and this release demonstrates exactly why.

“Convergence” samples a recognisable little snippet from one of our all-time favourite ‘60s drums: Jimmy McGriff’s 1968 classic ‘The Worm’. The tight drum loop leads things off with serious intention in what becomes one of the darkest, deepest, most rumbling D&B work-outs we’ve been smacked in the face with for some time! The track’s eerie intro effortlessly drags you into the looming heavyweight drop, and the expertly programmed arrangement provides unrelenting energy throughout. The track blew us away on first listen and was an instant no-questions-asked signing for the label!

“Borealis” flips the script completely in comparison to the A side, and is a much lighter themed affair from this outstanding production trio. Expect a more musical synth-led journey on this one, packed with intricate drum shuffles and shifty bubbling b-lines aplenty. This is D&B as we know it, at it’s finest.

Methxx04 takes an international direction and sees the Metalheadz debuts of  ArpXP & Reza hailing from Italy and Poland respectively.

"Unknown Feeling" by Reza is a dubbed out minimal journey into drum and bass. Melancholy chords combine with snippets of vocal and a sparse break, which are all underpinned by the weightiest of basslines. With two tracks of this quality it's no wonder this release is a double A side.

Collectively the two tracks make for a killer release - yet another gem in the much sought after METHXX catalogue

Following on from the impressive success of the Sounds Of The Innerground album, DJ Marky has seen fit to unleash an EP (or mini album) of pure summer jams, just in time for the sun to come out and bless us with its presence!

Featuring on this digital only release we have some of the heavy hitters of recent times with some soulful DnB to keep those long summer nights moving.

Kicking off with one from tried and tested funk duo, DJ Marky & Makoto, and their ode to melodic DnB, "Jazzy". When these guys hit the studio, sparks fly and we can see that in this track, which is the first of two diamonds from the pair. Big beats, guitar riffs and big basslines - what more can you ask for?

Next up, Level 2 with a cheeky number sure to put smiles on faces. It's great to welcome Level 2 back to the fold after his impressive debut "Murder On The Dancefloor" smashed the place apart. With "Love Insane", however, he has shown the deeper side to his nature with more of a lovers track than a dancefloor killer.

Submorphics returns with a trademark sizzler in the shape of "Hazel Street". Anyone who has been to a DJ Marky show recently will have heard this one on heavy rotation because it's a track so soulful it hurts! Beautiful male vocals layered over some gentle keys - perfect for a lazy day watching the sun go down.

TI has really gone about establishing himself in the Innerground stable, and here he comes correct again with a well measured track that gives the whole EP a new dynamic. TI really has an ear for the staccato beats and an enticing bassline, and here in "Reassurance" we can hear it in all its glory.

The penultimate track is another DJ Marky & Makoto collaboration, "Konfused". The name of the track is apt, as it drifts from the sound DJ Marky & Makoto fans are accustomed to, to a more dramatic bassline before lilting back to the magical keywork you'd be expecting in the breakdown.

And finishing things off we have Austria's finest, Roy Green & Protone featuring the vocal skills of Dorian and their track "Watch Me". A gentle roller this one, that shows off all the finer sides of the DnB genre and the real depth of audio range that can be achieved when it is done properly. A bit of sax always goes down nicely in a track like this and when the bassline hits it really packs some punch!
