A prolific figure in the underground Drum & Bass scene, Incognito makes a return to Proximity with his first release with us in just over a year. Hailing from New Zealand he has truly introduced a sound into the scene which sounds like it is from the other side of the world. This generous release offers up a four track EP which covers both the half tempo, almost head-banging, and the more traditional style of Drum & Bass.

The EP opens with Smoke Signals, offering us an intro with sounds that conjure images of one stranded on a Caribbean desert island before being ravaged by a storm in the guise of a dark and twisted amen break. Definitely the dance-floor smasher of Decayed EP, the track is heavy and relentless. Balancing Act is the second track a plodding rhythm giving way to a pulsating low end all with mid range growls to boot. The track certainly seems to reflect its title as each instrument and sample used is balanced in order to create a tight wall of sound.


Next we arrive at Decayed, starting with hazy synths and a hypnotic vocal sample that lulls you in before being followed by a driving bassline and intricate set of drums. The track shows off serious capabilities when it comes to producing a reliable roller with Decayed having just as much impact on the second drop as first. Finally, Play Your Card brings us back to half tempo. The mid range of Play Your Card is something to be commended and interweaves itself so finely with the low end of the track and the second drop finds room somewhere within the track for slightly more variation.
