PROXY Records’ first transmission is a 2 x 12” compilation by Boom Generation, containing 8 sought-after tracks produced between 1991 and 1995. These cuts aged particularly well, embodying the groove of the 90s by connecting raw and euphoric vibes. Remastered from the original DAT tapes, these recordings are configured to last another 30 years.

Profile Music has been a hallmark of the Melbourne Music scene for over a decade, tracing its roots back to their original store ‘Rhythm and Soul’, for which Profile’s founder, Steve Giardina, worked and contributed to, from 1996 until late 2006 when he bought and then rebranded the store.

Prior to this, his love for records saw him living and working throughout Europe.  From 1986 to 1995 he worked at three of London’s most prestigious record stores; starting at HMV Records at the young age of 17. This allowed him to cater, not only to the diverse musical taste of Europe’s largest city but also to an ever-growing list of well respected international DJ’s.  

Steve attributes the creation of Profile Music to the ‘Great Vinyl Depression’, which saw a nationwide move away from vinyl in favour of a new craze, that of mp3s.  While the nation was busy indulging in their newfound ability to pirate music, Steve’s belief in the importance and eventual resurgence of vinyl never waivered.

And from that, Profile Music was born.

So, if we don’t have the record you want in store, but it is available online, simply send us an email and we can ship it directly to you, or you can pick it up from our Prahran store.
