This is the first longer recording from yamyam and we’re super happy that we chose our platform to share it. yamyam started DJing during the pandemic, because it made her think of good times with her friends and was also a way to cope with extra time, when everything closed. She loves older tracks, acid house and oldschool trance, but she surprises us with a huge variety of genres and broken beats in her mix.

For the 71st edition of the ToofTape saga we are so happy to welcome Arlenys @arlenysmv

Growing up in the Bronx, New York as a Dominican woman, Arlenys found her self-expression through the underground music scene. Now a Berlin-based DJ, her inspiration ranges from metalcore to pop music. Arlenys plays with the crowd and adapts to the energy of her fellow partiers; be sure to expect a set full of industrial mixed with trance, semi-hypnotic sounds, and a glimpse of trippy techno.

She’s a resident at Dynamics Events, a Queer feminist hard dance series making headway in Berlin’s electronic music scene. Since its conception in 2019, their parties are dedicated to creating a safe space for the FLINTA and BIPOC communities, empowering each other on the dance floor through P.L.U.R (peace, love, unity, respect).

Arlenys is also the singer-songwriter of the dark wave duo, No Hard Feelings. No Hard Feelings delivers a playful yet gloomy sound that takes inspiration from the cheerful darkness of synth-pop music and the roughness of Berlin's industrial scene.

"My process for creating a set is centered around a particular mood or feeling I want to convey capturing a vibe that resonates with my soul. I find it challenging to stick strictly to one genre, so I enjoy oscillating between a range of styles, including techno, trance, and house, as long as the tracks blend well and create an interesting listening experience. I carefully select the tracks from my vinyl collection and spend hours mixing and experimenting until I am satisfied with the final result. I then record the set and use it as a learning tool to refine my technique and improve the final mix.

My goal is to share with listeners some hidden gems from the past that may have been forgotten or overlooked. I have a particular passion for the emotional and hypnotic sound of 90s dance music, and I am dedicated to showcasing its uniqueness. I am deeply interested in the mathematical structures that underpin dance music, and I believe that understanding and following these structures is essential to achieving a high level of mixing and creating harmonious, satisfying blends. However, some of the 90s tunes I play can be tricky, with potential pitfalls that require careful attention to avoid creating a jarring, chaotic result. Ultimately, I hope that my take on 90s trance will transport you to a time when the music was pure and the energy on the dance floor unforgettable." — @Ma-Bla
