This was written on a rainy Sunday afternoon when I was sheltering in a shop doorway comparing the artist's rosy impression of Victorian flower girls, all smiles and lace, with the miserable street scene before me. This recording was produced by Tim Lovegrove of Warehouse Studio, Oxford as part of the www.musicinoxford.co.uk sessions. The song was also a staple in my old band Free Spirits and my current group The Reckless Sleepers, with the excellent Mark Bosley on bass and equally excellent Pete Lock on drums and Robin Morris on keyboards. Soon also to feature Kaz Stow on backing vocals and percussion!

'Signal 30' is a notoriously grisly and hard-hitting US road safety film from 1959. Taking inspiration from the original title, and stopping via numerous other American
public information driving films including 'The Bottle and The Throttle' and 'None For
The Road', PSB deliver three and a half minutes of pure adrenaline - driving fast so you
don't have to.

'Inform - Educate - Entertain' is released on Test Card Recordings on May 6 2013 and
features previous singles 'Spitfire', 'ROYGBIV' and 'Everest', three tracks which all won
BBC 6Music's Rebel Playlist in 2012 - a breakthrough year for the band which saw the
band selling 13k copies of their debut release 'The War Room' EP.

J. Willgoose, Esq. and his drumming companion, Wrigglesworth, will embark on a
mammoth 46 date tour of the UK in late February, March and May in support of the
single and album - taking care to drive safely along the way, of course.

Public Service Broadcasting - Signal 30 (The Title Sequence's Gatso Mix)

Lulu Rouge are back with their 2nd album. This time they take that deep melancholic sound they have become known for, and progress it to the next breathtaking level. This means more intense vocal tracks next to their trademark powerful instrumentals. Night Mail - Public Service Broadcasting

Track number 8 (EIGHT) off the album is this fashionable little number. To my delight I managed to find a film detailing the splendours of corduroy (‘the fabric woven for the now generation’), and attempted to build a Clothes-Show-esque theme around it. Elbow patches ahoy

Theme From PSB follows recent road-safety single Signal 30 and ode to the Himalayas, Everest. Rather than focusing on a specific moment in time, it sees the band turn the spotlight onto themselves and other public service broadcasters who came before them, telling of ‘these dreamers, [who] were pioneers; they envisioned a great institution’. 

Along the way it takes in pioneering American news broadcaster Edward R. Murrow’s famous speech from 1958, celebrating an instrument that can ‘teach… illuminate and yes, even inspire’, breezing along to a climax which invokes the very best that Public Service Broadcasting - both the institution and the band - has to offer.

The band will be pressing a limited edition pink vinyl to accompany the release, the b-side of which is a live recording of previous single Everest, recorded at their sold out date at London's Village Underground in May.
