A live recording of the set I played at my (beautiful!) friends birthday party 15 - 16 March!

This was a very special set for me as it required me to approach music differently and it was so so refreshing and fun! I stepped out of my comfort zone not only in the music I played but also in how I presented myself.

I had the honour of returning to Summer Camp for the 4th time, and 2nd time playing. This is one gathering that remains so close to my heart and plays a massive role in my personal healing journey.

Summer Camp: Rhythm 2025

This set was crafted for Summer Camp 2025 - Rhythm. Dani Boden’s (The event organizer) invitation to weave in tracks that moved us on our artistic journeys struck a deep chord with me. My rhythmic journey began in 2001, and by 2003 I was behind the decks, immersed in the high-energy world of Hard Trance and Hard House.

For this special set, I revisited that era—reviving signature sounds, samples, and energy that shaped my foundation as an artist. I mashed up elements from my early Hard Trance days with modern and older Progressive Psy Trance to create a bridge between past and present—a rhythmic story told through sound.

I played Saturday at midnight, taking over from Dave Irish who closed on 132 BPM Psy Tech, and setting the stage for Arcane who kicked off at 142 BPM. It was a transition zone—perfect for a journey.

This set is both a nod to where I come from and a celebration of where I’m headed. Some old, some new, all rhythm.

A step back in time putting these tracks together for Sunday afternoon shenanigans all tickled in pink along the sea side of the west coast of Cape Town. 'Tickled Pink' is an idiomatic expression that means being very happy or amused and I just loooooved playing my sound out to friends, all dressed up and looking gorgeous! iI gives me great joy to feel the dance-floor full of love and positive energy. Listener is the psytrance project of Dean Claassens. After being introduced to his first outdoor festival in 2012, the bug bit and he tried to attend as many festivals as possible. After having a profound experience in 2013, the seed of playing psytrance music for others had been planted. Being ever inquisitive, Dean had spent many years teaching himself the theory of DJing before finally purchasing his equipment and teaching himself practically.

Listener is very much led by melody, believing it to be the fundamental character in which a musical journey can be created. He believes in creating flow in music to hold a space so that those present can feel safe to evolve within themselves and to receive what they need at the time.

Listener debuted at Summer Camp in November 2021 to emphatic positive feedback and has played at every Summer Camp festival since. He joined the Psy-Kick Tuesdays radio show, aired on Mutha-FM. Hosted by @gryphon-x, Listener became a monthly resident on the line-up until the show ended in October 2023. He has also been asked to play at festivals in the Garden Route of the Western Cape, including ECHO Gatherings and Community. In Cape Town, Listener will be found on many Hidden Leaf Festival line-ups.

This is the collection of music recorded along Listeners journey, from past to present.
