"Khaya" is a Zulu word for "home". This was the theme of Summer Camp and it could not have been more fitting. Summer Camp has been a home and a safe space for so many to grow and release.
I feel so privileged to have been part of this gathering and to contribute to the energy that was brought by so many artists.

Summer Camp: Khaya 2024

Listener is the psytrance project of Dean Claassens. After being introduced to his first outdoor festival in 2012, the bug bit and he tried to attend as many festivals as possible. After having a profound experience in 2013, the seed of playing psytrance music for others had been planted. Being ever inquisitive, Dean had spent many years teaching himself the theory of DJing before finally purchasing his equipment and teaching himself practically.

Listener is very much led by melody, believing it to be the fundamental character in which a musical journey can be created. He believes in creating flow in music to hold a space so that those present can feel safe to evolve within themselves and to receive what they need at the time.

Listener debuted at Summer Camp in November 2021 to emphatic positive feedback and has played at every Summer Camp festival since. He joined the Psy-Kick Tuesdays radio show, aired on Mutha-FM. Hosted by @gryphon-x, Listener became a monthly resident on the line-up until the show ended in October 2023. He has also been asked to play at festivals in the Garden Route of the Western Cape, including ECHO Gatherings and Community. In Cape Town, Listener will be found on many Hidden Leaf Festival line-ups.
