Hidden under the veil of anonymity for years, Grant - now known to be Anthony Collins, half of Brooklyn’s revered Frank & Tony and co-founder of Scissor & Thread - has been a game changer in the lo-fi house scene. Pairing classic sounds from Detroit & Chicago house with complex textures and deep soundscapes, he’s created a powerful signature sound of his own. Having put out 6 impressive records under the wing of the Lobster Theremin family and his self-titled Grant offshoot, his partnership with head lobster Jimmy Asquith continues as he marks the second release on Asquith’s new label SITU Records.

Today’s premiere is the A2 off this new venture, titled “Dash”. Things heat up as a moody bassline and 909 beat strut along in good Chicago fashion. As the track breaks down, pads ebb and flow, shimmering, plucky synths breeze in, distant strings echo, and a stuttering vocal emerges. The combination of elements prove effective as they all combine to make the perfect slow-burning groover, perfect for eyes-closed dancing in the morning hours.

Across the Long Game EP, Grant offers up 4 cuts of moody oldschool house, taking us on a journey through the deeper end of things. Though never straying too far from his roots, Grant manages to sound fresh as ever, always bringing new energy to the table. Another buy on sight release from a masterful producer.

Started in 2015, Lissoms is a Berlin imprint founded by Newcastle artist and producer Edmondson. Best known for releases like 2013's Chestnut Ave EP on Hypercolour, Edmondson has recently decided to pair up with his long time friend Practitioner for Linhope - a split 12” featuring three tracks from each.

Following on from last year’s Hemisphere release popping up everywhere from Panorama bar to Radio 1, Edmondson brings cosmic house & leftfield techno to side A. Not too surprising, we have decided to premiere one of the cosmic house tunes from the record. This one is titled "Kloof," which features a playful assortment of sampled vocals and sashaying synths that delicately dance around a bassline whose sole purpose is to get you up on your feet. 

On the other side of the record, we have Practitioner - who has been active for well over a decade under numerous aliases and producing electronic productions floating ambiguously between UK-centric bass music and Romanian minimal.

Once a resident at the notorious Berlin institution Tacheles, he has material forthcoming later this year on Well Street Records, amongst others. His side of the record encompasses soundscape dub techno and 130 beat abstractions, sounding both meandering and monolithic.

Coymix Ltd., a new Estonian/Finnish label from Steffan Todorović (one of the minds behind Gestalt records) and Timo Rotonen (founder at Echocentric Records) has launched its maiden journey with a release from South African producer Terrence Pearce, aka Biodive. Here he rolls out a complex but direct 4-track journey of synth-buoyant and euphoric blissful mania.

Most of these tracks were originally planned for release on Gestalt Records, but after a bit of self-deliberation, Steffan figured it’d be best to start a brand new label to house the project. Having already been close with Timo, the two often helping each other with their respective labels, Steffan passed him the tracks and the two decided it’d be a good idea to launch Coymix Ltd. together. It’s no secret that the type of cosmic, pumping deep house that Biodive has delivered is trending right now, and for good reason. The music is of superb quality and emotion, and you’d be missing out not to grab this for the bag (or stick) before it sells out.

Plane of the Ecliptic leads the release with its big festival stage sound, first capturing attention with beautiful melancholic chords before introducing a pulsing subaqueous bassline that slinks over an otherwise calming ambient soundscape. The energy is serene but powerful, and I can already imagine massive crowds collectively losing their minds to this at the grand summer festival stages. The tune is never too busy, and Biodive does a great job building tension and releasing energy in an arrangement that really works to guide the listener through different states of feeling.After more than a year in the works, the project is set to release on both vinyl and digital formats on July 1, 2020. Across the release, eighteen artists explore the breadth of the Australian electronic music landscape. From gentle piano compositions, to subtle downtempo nested amongst techno-tinged drum tracks, electro expeditions and so much more… Devoted listeners are joined by new producers, friends and some of our most aspired Australian producers to form this exciting release. 

100% of proceeds will be donated to Aborigial Legal Services; based in Redfern it is the first Aboriginal Legal Service in Australia, and the first free legal assistance service in the country.

PS005 - Various Artists - PROXIMITY

We often find there are two types of artists. One internalises their process, endlessly perfecting their work while finding the endpoint a massive hurdle, and in turn producing immaculate yet very little art. The other is continuously inspired, so full of ideas they can barely work fast enough to articulate them all. The art becomes by-product of their larger trajectory and not just a collection of endpoints. Lord Of The Isles a.k.a. Neil McDonald seems to be both. He’s always in an evolving state of process where work is constantly shed to make way for a new layer growing beneath, yet he holds his cards closely, cherry-picking when and with whom he releases that work into the world.
Neil is simply prolific. In 2016 he shared with us a vast catalog of unheard beauty, which over a long span of time was collaboratively shaped into his debut album 'In Waves'. In the span between the album release and now, Neil has performed on a number of ESP Institute label showcases from Los Angeles to Amsterdam to Berlin, and released a few efforts with our peers, but all throughout he’s been holed up working on his sophomore album [sigh]. Though patience has become a sort of meditation during this global upside-down, we couldn’t help but squeeze out an interim release to uphold the fantasy. So, four years after the release of 'In Waves', we’re proud to present a very long-winded follow-up single for the album’s monster track 'Skylark'. Accompanied by a previously unreleased album cut entitled 'OmniMulti', the single also touts two glorious remixes; a sunkissed version by fellow esteemed Scotsman Linkwood and an atmospheric dismantling by the Melbourne hopeful Tourist Kid. You see, good things come to those who wait.

Ran by Karima F and visual artist Ida Ekblad, Oslo-based Schloss Records is not only a record label but also an art gallery. With each release sporting grandiose aesthetics from Ida, as a platform Schloss continues to catch both eyes and ears in equal measure.

Their next offering comes from Mr. Timothy Crombie, most commonly known as A Psychic Yes. Entitled ' That Swamp Feeling', the EP features Bristol's Hodge on the remix.

Whilst the original brims with raw drum patterns and steel pan melody, Hodge brightens up the arrangement filling space with airy synth tones and his well-known preference for Jurassic wildlife samples.

Following the devastating explosion at the Port of Beirut on August 4, Ma3azef teamed up with New York-based mastering engineer Heba Kadry to curate a compilation by regional and international musicians to raise funds for the continuous relief work being done on the ground in Beirut to help those who have been failed by the Lebanese state.

Today, we're happy to announce two additional remixes to be added to the compilation: ZULI's Kiwii, remixed by El Kontessa; Deena Abdelwahed's Wein El Malayeen, remixed  by Ancient Methods.

The 19-track compilation includes contributions by the likes of Fatima Al Qadiri, Nicolás Jaar, ZULI, Slikback, and others. Bringing sounds together from the different crevices of electronic music, it is a humble attempt to galvanize musicians and listeners into supporting a city that has been integral in shaping the region’s contemporary music scene.

All proceeds from the sales of the compilation are going to local initiatives to provide assistance to those affected, they will be divided between Fundraising Campaign for the Arts and Culture Community in Beirut organized by AFAC; Beirut Musicians' Fund organized by Tunefork Studios, and Beit el Baraka.

PSY SECTION proudly presents: “The Very First Real Magic”. 

The first release of Escape Artist’s new imprint is a various artists affair brought together by the power of friendship. After years of being sent amazing music by new and old friends from near and afar, the time has come to share this joy with the rest of the world. As a label, we will seek to shine a light on psychedelic music of all designs and the first release will focus on the dance variety. It is the label’s hope that the love and friendship that brought this project together will shine through in the music. 

Side A opens with cris. p’s ‘Lemon’, a mid-tempo breakbeat roller that epitomises the ideal qualities of a track found in an opening set. Playful acid notes and indecipherable spoken work glisten against a backdrop of thumping kicks and warm sub bass. Grim Beazley’s ‘Acid Leaf’ evokes a memory of crowded peak time floors. The song’s gentle introduction gives way to powerful 303/909 interplay and leaves us yearning to go back to that place.

Hex Editor’s transcendental breakbeat dreamscape ‘Tuesday’ opens the B side with expert precision. Soaring pads and swimming arpeggios provide the perfect spot for the listener to land after their flight from the previous side. Escape Artist & cris. p’s ‘People Division’ rounds out the release. A kaleidoscopic downtempo introduction leads to a groove punctuated with intricate polyrhythmic basslines. Produced during lockdown, this piece is an attempt to sonically manifest our collective desire to return to the dancefloor.

PSY SECTION was founded on stolen land. We acknowledge that this release was created on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We pay our respects to elders past, present, and emerging.
