“Futuro perfecto” is the evocative first release by UNIVAC for Femur. In it the passion for machine-like, cold and harsh sounds are being dug into in this new work, which takes him a step further in his rewarded trajectory. The selection is varied and unclassifiable and, despite diverse influences, the sound maintains its personal and non-transferable touch.

Jason Letkiewicz has always swum against the musical tides, flitting between different solo pseudonyms (including Steve Summers, Death Commando and Alan Hurst) and collaborative projects (most notably Mutant Beat Dance) in order to explore different aspects of his leftfield inspirations. With his latest release, a first full-length outing for Artificial Dance entitled Mirage Information, the Chicago-based artist is operating under an alias that celebrates this approach: Opposing Currents.

It’s an alias he’s used once before – for a track featured on Chronditic Sound’s 2015 cassette compilation Non-Christian Referent – but Mirage Information sounds like an artistic rebirth. Densely layered, mind-altering and often intense, the album’s seven tracks update the Cold War paranoia and pulsating electronics of EBM and industrial music for today’s complex and chaotic political climate.

Throughout, Letkiewicz smothers off-kilter drum machine rhythms and throbbing, body-jacking synthesizer basslines in untold layers of hazy audio detail, creating a dystopian sound soup out of which alien electronic melodies, psychedelic acid lines and barely audible vocals emerge. At times, such as on angry opener “Lying Awake”, the extra-terrestrial “Dissolve” and foreboding “Shallow Grave”, we’re invited to dance in the darkness in celebration of impending doom. On other occasions, such as the poignant and melancholic closing cut “It Awaits”, Letkiewicz simply seems exasperated at the chaos that is life in the 21st century. It makes for a genuinely arresting and thought-provoking listen.

Side A is a reissue of the highly sought after Disdain EP from 1988 by White House White. While it’s the most straightforward New Beat / EBM section of this Collected, Desaever’s sense of dramaturgy, his sound design, rhythmic patterns and use of film samples create a dark and mysterious ambiance at odds with the smiley atmosphere prevalent in most contemporary New Beat productions with infectious grooves focused on setting bodies in motion. 

On Side B, three previously unreleased tracks in a similar spirit to WHW’s sound with a dark and sleazy atmosphere, elegant arrangements that sound of an almost baroque persuasion, mysterious film samples and dance-inducing rhythmic sections that range from 104 to 108 BPM.

Musique Pour La Danse is thrilled to present its latest “Collected” anthology, the label’s most ambitious release since it released an extensive anthology of music produced by New Beat pioneer Ro Maron back in 2015. 

This time label managers Olivier Ducret (Muriaux, CH) and Ed Isar (Paris, FR) have focused on another essential Belgian producer: Dirk Desaever, the man behind White House White, A Thunder Orchestra and Danton’s Voice. Rare and sought after, his records fetch high prices among collectors. Some of his productions under these aliases have appeared in crucial compilations such The Sound of Belgium series as well as Walhalla’s Underground Wave, along with edits by Mick Wills for Biorythm and Marcel Dettman for Dekmantel. 

What was initially supposed to be a simple reissue affair soon turned into a much wider project, as Desaever shared heaps of amazing unreleased material with the label. It seemed much more interesting to shed light on the dark side of this producer’s body of work, rather than to focus on content already reissued elsewhere. 

After listening to noisy tape rips over and over, Ducret & Isar opted to break this release down in three formats (EP, LP distributed via NEWS and a cassette sold by the label direct), each one with different content. They entrusted sound engineer Lorenzo Targhetta with remastering the music and it’s impressive how much he managed to polish the sound without altering the unmistakable grain of music committed to cassette tape.

We are proud to present two new EPs from De Bons en Pierre, the duo of Beau Wanzer @bwanz & Maoupa Mazzocchetti @maoupa-mazzocchetti . Beau Wanzer spends the majority of his days sifting through paraffin embedded animal tissues and reading old issues of Fangoria, occasionally breaking his monotonous routine to record in various fits and bursts. As well as solo material, he is also in numerous projects including Streetwalker, Mutant Beat Dance, Civil Duty, and Corporate Park. Maoupa Mazzocchetti is the pseudonym of Florent Mazzocchetti, a French producer based in Brussels. His sonic vision is one which constantly straddles the line between wild experimentation and rhythmic compatibility, drawing influence from early concrète, 80's tape scene and Birmingham school techno. 
After working together on the ‘Crepes’ EP that we released in 2017, De Bons en Pierre reunited for a two day recording session in Brussels. The duo recorded 13 tracks that we’ve split across 2 EPs with 6 tracks on ‘EP No. 1’ and 7 tracks on ‘EP No. 2’. Beau says, “We hooked everything up and just pushed play. We didn’t really discuss much about the process….it was very ‘spur of the moment’.” The equipment set up included a Roland TR-808, TR-606, SH-101, CR-78, CR-8000, two Syncussions and effects. Each EP contains 25 minutes of dance floor perversions that tackle an array of rhythmic forms. Sludgy synths, serrated percussion and viscous distortion goops over leviathan rhythms. All songs are mastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. ‘EP No. 1’ is housed in a sewage green jacket featuring a monster mask duo and spiky motifs designed by Florent Mazzocchetti, and ‘EP No. 2’ is radioactive orange with a different pair of monster masks.
