Since so many people have been asking me for recorded sets lately, I figured it was about time I made a new mixtape! "Wanderlust" is chocked full of tunes from myself (including some unreleased business) as well as artists we've released on the label that I run, Gravitas Recordings. The vibe starts funky and gets hype before taking a turn for the chill side of the spectrum, but everything comes full circle by the end. Desert Trax is proud to present the newest sonic offering from Desert Dwellers, "Dive Into Forever." Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe are unleashing another set of groundbreaking tracks on this EP.  This time they have collaborated with the soulful songstress Ixchel Prisma, who added a major component to the overall enchantment of these tunes.  Together they have seamlessly interwoven Ixchel's spacious lyrics within the forward moving psychedelic atmospheres of the desert. Showcasing their versatility as sound designers, Desert Dwellers have significantly adapted and developed their production value to best suit and complement the voice that shines throughout.
  
The first song, "Dive Into the Core", is overflowing with meditative modulations and a palpable poetic presence.  Greatly influenced by the work of Phaeleh, the track begins with a gentle whisper that invokes the feeling of a lullaby.  As it progresses, spacious synthesizers and a proliferation of pads filter in and out,  providing a blissful background for Ixchel's verses and catchy choruses.  "Dive Into the Core" is a very archetypal composition that will garner affection and adoration for its lovely lyrics and script, edifying the mystical nature of musical mythos, and the rebirth symbolism of the phoenix rising from the ashes. 

Harken back to the origin of Desert Dwellers and hear reborn the second song on this EP, which is a revamped rendition of one of their oldest and most beloved manifestations, "You Can See Forever." The hypnotic dance vibe of this version of the tune will most certainly captivate any listener.  The instrumentation and vibe is a lot more psychedelic compared to "Dive into the Core," featuring a heavy dose of delayed FX, ethnic woodwinds and incredible incantations.  When listening, It's pretty hard to not imagine yourself wandering the desert with an endless moonlit horizon in front of you.

For your listening pleasure, here's the set I played last week at Alex Grey's Chapel Of Sacred Mirrors. It features all originals, remixes, and a couple remixes others have done for me over the years as well. I dug a bit deep on this one, pulling tunes from as far back as 2011, but also a couple of unreleased bits as well. The crowd at CoSM was incredibly open minded, so I ended up going all over the place with genres and tempos. I don't normally play originals sets, but I got a pretty hefty response to post this one up -- so here ya go!

The mix continues to flow with Modeselektor, Orbital from '94, Lusine and the collaboration between Four Tet, Burial and Thom Yorke. It's uptempo in the second half with Dauwd, another Bonobo remix, our guest in hour 1 Martyn and a remix for the Carl Craig classic 'At Les', before closing the show with his unreleased remix of 'Strong the root' by Lamb.

On Solid Steel, we like to go deep and as part of our celebrations in Hour 2, we welcome DJ Scientist with Solid Soviet Steel Radio (SSSR), a special guest mix that solely features music from the former Soviet Union. The dedicated record collector, DJ and Equinox record label owner from Berlin managed to unearth and put together an extensive and fascinating selection of tracks from countries like the Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldavia, Russia and more, resulting in a unique musical adventure. The mix starts with a deep and slow psych part, coming up with more funk-laden Soviet grooves and killer instrumental breaks. Many of these groups managed to create their own kind of sound, mixing western styles like Jazz, Funk and Rock with traditional music from their own countries. Cresting the modern wave of electronic producers, Psymbionic creates aural experiences that explore the range of multi-tempo Bass Music within an influential and dynamic culture. With an ear for situational relevance, Psymbionic enjoys turning non-traditional sound design and infectious rhythms into dancefloor heat, while also maintaining his history in the downtempo, emotive side of the electronic sound.
