Documenting the sociocultural and religious parameters of rave and post-rave phenomena at various locations around the globe, scholars of contemporary religion, dance ethnologists, sociologists and other cultural observers unravel this significant youth cultural practice.

The collection provides insights on developments in post-traditional religiosity (especially ‘New Age’ and ‘Neo-Paganism’) through studies of rave’s gnostic narratives of ascensionism and re-enchantment, explorations of the embodied spirituality and millennialist predispositions of dance culture, and investigations of transnational digital-art countercultures manifesting at geographic locations as diverse as Goa, India, north-eastern New South Wales, Australia and Nevada’s Burning Man Festival. 
Contributors examine raving as a new religious or revitalization movement; a powerful locus of sacrifice and transgression; a lived bodily experience; a practice comparable with world entheogenic rituals and as evidencing.

Shining with approximately 40,000 times the luminosity of our Sun, Rigel is the brightest star in our local region of the Milky Way and the eponym of psy-prodigy Vasili. In his early teen years, Rigel experimented with electronic kits, constructing flip-flop circuits, lfos, etc. Once he got his hands on the fast tracker and his first soundcard, the avid juggler Rigel quickly moved to juggling audio in the computer. Focusing on soft modular synth tweakage, he began producing in various styles of electronic music. With a vast variety of musical influences - from techno & trance to jazz & funk, from chill to dnb - he funneled his character into a charismatic and eclectic psychelectronica sizzling with freshness. During the following years, he attended multimedia studies, won computer music competitions and made himself a solid name playing live and as dj in various clubs and on open-air festivals, as well as with writing and producing for tv and radio commercials, theater plays, circus shows, remixes and more. A haven for the like minded and a hub of creativity, it has embraced all aspects of psy-culture. PsynOpticz has it's roots deep in mother Africa but has found it's home in hearts and dancefloors worldwide. 

The concept of PsynOpticz was seeded in the thriving Cape Town indoor scene in 2006, where it flourished, providing the CT masses with cream of the crop local and international talent on a weekly basis. These events quickly gained an ardent following and were renowned for their stellar lineups, immersive psychedelic decor and energising vibe! 

With this experience and ever growing support, it became inevitable that PsynOpticz branch out into the outdoors, providing South Africa with it's staple annual event, Jungala Festival.

It has its own special flavour and design, with the goal to create an all encompassing experience that removes you from the mundane and transports you to an interactive psychedelic wonderland, a completely synergistic and harmonious journey from beginning to end.
