We welcome back Michelle Sparks for another EP on Tronic. This time Michelle delivered two hypnotic, minimal groovers that are made for dark warehouse raves! We recruited Chicago Loop for remix duties. His version of Mindweave adds an immersive synth sequence and a groove that reminds us of the late 90s. Great Package!

Goa is over 20 years old in the mean time. Time to have a retrodelic look! For this I dug in my huge cd & vinyl collection and decided to make a mix for every year for the period 1994-2015 to show the "new" generation of goa people how goa-trance evolved, and never really died ;)

This seventh mix is about 1998, mixed with 2 CDJ1000s and Pioneer djm300 (no lap top mixing involved!). Like usual, a serious challenge! All styles are captured in 1 mix... Hopefully it sounds like a good story! :) The next mix will be about 1999! :) So, have a look, a listen, download it and make sure to buy the music if you like it!

This album was created in 96kHz/24bit high definition audio. 
The current standard is 44.1kHz and has been around since the late 70's. 96kHz has over double the information in the waveform and thus is a more true representation of the sound. This can be heard, but mostly felt through good quality sound systems. 
Do not purchase this version if you are going to turn it into MP3. MP3 is a poor translation of sound. 
Fortunately FLAC encoding does stay true to 96kHz resolution. 

We are an evolving species and our technology is evolving too.

8. Spanish Gypsy

Until quite recently I lived the Sierra Guadarrama mountains in Spain for several years where I was exposed to a lot of excellent Flamenco music, which is the music of the Gypsies or Romani. 

Being a guitarist myself I couldn't help but get sucked into figuring out how to play this style on guitar. While I was learning, I was struck by the similarity between Flamenco and North African and Indian music and when I analysed it, I found that they share certain musical scales. (interestingly the Romani were originally a nomadic tribe from northen India that travelled to Europe in the12th century) 

Another musical conjunction was the similarity (to me) between the harmony and rhythm of the opening bars of that quintessentially Spanish dance the Pasa Doble and a lot of Trance built on a gallop rhythm. 

So the original inspirational spark began with the possibility of combining all these musical threads into one piece of music. So, I started by creating the melody on a Flamenco scale, over the rhythm of the Pasa Doble with it's semi-tone harmonic movement and mixed that with certain elements of the older Indian influenced Goa-trance sound, but built it all on a foundation of the big kick and bass from the more modern Psytrance sound. 

Later I dusted off the (steel strung) acoustic and recorded some melodic guitar parts using some newly learned Flamenco licks to emphasis the Gitano flavour. 

The track you hear is the result of this weird musical synthesis of Goa, Psy trance, Flamenco and the Pasa Doble.
