DJ Rashad has been instrumental to the creation and evolution of Chicago Juke music and has been lifelong friends with other key players on the scene such as Paul Johnson, DJ Gant-Man, DJ Spinn, DJ Godfather and Jammin Gerald. He has the ability to blend elements of house, ghetto house, disco, juke, and ghetto tech together with a knack for creating sparse, snappy tracks that manage to convey a physicality and funk with spectacular precision.
Along with his teammates DJ Spinn and DJ Gant-Man, DJ Rashad has become notorious for making Juke anthems that have made fans outside the world of Chicago mix cds. He’s released records on Dancemania, Juke Trax, Planet Mu, created his own label, Ghettophiles, as well as had featured remixes on BBE, Palms Out Sounds, and Movel Traxx. He’s received press coverage from DJ Mag, XLR8R, Fact, Resident Advisor, as well as Rip It Up. Additionally, he’s headlined parties such as London’s Night Slugs, Brussel’s Regulate, Chicago’s Mad Decent Block Party, and New York City’s Turrbotax and Moma’s PS1 events.

In the early 90’s, when gangsta’ rap consumed the airwaves, and the majority of West Coast rappers strapped on their Locs, Chuck Taylor’s & Ben Davis’, The Pharcyde decidedly maintained a willfully weird vision. 

Opting to stay true to themselves with their left field but still South-Central sensibility, rap had seen few groups so self-deprecating and so smart, a group of visionary rappers adroitly able to split the difference between helium-voiced and hard-core.

Listening to “Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde” two full decades after its release, its sense of timeliness is unmistakable. Every song on the album inverts a hoary hip-hop cliché. With classics like “Oh Shit,” “Otha Fish”, “Ya’ Mama,” and hit single, “Passing Me By,” it is not surprising that it shipped over a million units, garnered comparisons to De La Soul and Tribe Called Quest, and everyone from Pitchfork Media to The Source has hailed it as one of the greatest albums ever made. 

Speaking on the passage of time, their second release “LabCabInCalifornia” has revealed exactly how far-reaching The Pharcyde’s vision was. From enlisting a young and then unknown James Yancey aka J DILLA to produce beats, the classic “Runnin” to collaborating with director Spike Jonze (“Being John Malkovich” “Adaptation”) on the video for “Drop,” it has consistently reinforced their steadfast refusal to tread familiar artistic grounds.

Today, The Pharcyde is still performing and touring the globe. They continue to hone their individual abilities yet carry on the name & legacy in its original fashion. They still seduce their audience with the same boyish charm that founded them at the beginning. Now, it’s combined with the knowledge that has been bestowed upon them as men who have taken on, and rose to the challenge of the rap game. 

The end result of all this hard work is a band that’s still influencing the hip hop artists and sounds crowding our radio waves today and will continue to for many years to come.

Nil & Karin Romano are DJs \producers based in Tel Aviv ,the Romano sisters are  two of  Tel Aviv's finest electronic  underground DJs. Their name, 'Music Junkies' perfectly describes their addiction and fascination with colossal break-downs and tantalising beats, which has led the 24 year old twin sisters to dominate the Tel Aviv club scene over the past year, and create ripples of excitement as far wide as Russia, Germany
and Puerto Rico by word of mouth alone.

Creating ground-breaking sets driven by heartfelt emotion and a hunger to please their audiences, the girls give us an insight into their softer side before they pulverise the crowd with harder-edged beats. Music Junkies are versatile in their structure, delivering blissful house music, leading to mind altering techno, whilst enrapturing the crowd through seamless mixing and engaging personalities.

The twins' extensive and obsessive knowledge of music is extraordinary, and they were quite rightly chosen by the prestigious BPM College of Music and Dana Ve Anat to showcase their talents alongside some of the best female DJs in Israel - a mark of their talent given their comparative younger years and newly-emerging status.

Music Junkies were on the line-up which Timeout magazine classed as 'Best Line Up of Tel Aviv 2012' at the hugely successful 'Cheesecake' night, which takes place at The Breakfast Club every Thursday.
