The Alma Negra collective consists of three Swiss based friends and musical kindred spirits. Crossing musical traditions, their eclectic sound is result of their varied and cross-cultural backgrounds. The Figueira Brothers, Dersu & Diego have roots in Cape Verde, while Mario’s roots are in Spain.  As DJ’s, producers and live performers, their sound ranges from Jazz to African and Latin, from Donald Byrd to Fela Kuti to Theo Parrish. The Alma Negra camp is bubbling over with creativity. They’ve released on Sofrito, Highlife and are part of the Heist Recordings family.  The Basel based DJ’s and obsessive diggers formed Alma Negra Records in 2018 as forum for global sounds and club ready music with a multi-cultural approach and a raging deep passion for the Latin flavour, mad percussion, highly infectious rhythms, and tribal beats.

The ‘Zouk Combat EP’ pays homage to the Afrodisco sounds of the 80s. Zouk is the disco noise from the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. The title track is nothing but a dancefloor bomb, with crisp brass, drum machines and funky synths that drive the Zouk beat forward. ‘Sosso’  is the cut you want to hear as the sun comes up on a beach. It’s delicate vocal and super light groove make you float up into the Sunrise. ‘Timbal Madness’ comes with a hard timbal solo, deep synth pads and mental voice synth solo.  On the remix is Boston born, Medellin based studio wizard Bosq, who delivers his Afro-Latin rerub of ‘Zouk Combat’, once again proving his skill as one of the most in demand remixers in this scene ain’t no joke.

British producer Andy Ash is on a roll! His recent release for Quintessentials slaps hard and not to mention output on such respected labels as Sheffield’s Moment Cinetique, Chicago’s Still Love 4 Music, New York’s On The Prowl and Sydney’s People Must Jam. Andy Ash tracks always have this wonky edge to them which make his music stand out in the crowd and we’re pleased to welcome him back for his third release on Delusions entitled the Tiawo EP.

Kicking off this four track EP, the title track goes deep into early Chicago house territory calling to mind those incredible drum machine and synth workouts on Trax. Stripped back to just the driving 707 groove and chiming digital synths this punchy warehouse jam is just the track for those heady hours where the dance floor becomes suspended in time and the dancers are locked into the unfaltering groove.

Next up Strictly Pins goes for a minimal approach with shuffling drums, moody Detroit Rhodes chords, bass and..... that’s about it. But it grooves hard!

Burger treads a similar rhythmic and sonic path but with added trippy factor coming from a completely twisted vocal sample which is warped, cut up and processed for maximum freak-effect. Just a little insight into the mind of a madman which is both quite fun and disturbing in equal measures.

Closing out the EP we have Brother which goes for a slightly more conventional deep house sound with syncopated stabs, rolling bassline and swinging drums.

When DJ Stereoid travelled Peru back in 2015, he didn't know at all what kind of adventures will wait for him in the farest angels of the selva, in the area of iquitos.
While tripping hard on ayahuasca, he heard this inner voice telling him he needs to leave the jungle and move on in life.
Chased away by tarantulas, poisonous snakes and white people with dreadlocks, DJ Stereoid luckily made it out alive, desperately trying to save the bunch of pure latin heat records he bought in local stores. 
So, the time has come to do a little mix with these dusty records, all from the golden era of latin music. Mostly cumbia but also a tiny bit of salsa, rhumba and a touch of chicha.
This mix is also dedicated to Difraktive, who kindly remembered me of my passion for cumbia by changing my DJ alias to DJ Estereoid.

@moffandtarkin is back on Lagaffe Tales with a record that marks the 9th release in the Lagaffe series. The Austrian based Icelander provides two originals as well as a remix from label friend @uffeisaband.

The record starts off with Tension a break inspired banger with that special Moff & Tarkin twist. If you spot the sample let us know and you might win a coupon.

The second track "Socks By The Sofa" feels like something that would work wonders at your local bowling arena or even shopping mall, some piano samples and vocals, you know the drill.

The b side is dedicated to a massive Uffe remix, I tell you man, we had to write him back like 5 times and ask him to reduce that bass. Uffe takes Tension and turns it into a jungle journey a la Indiana Jones.

Mézigue (meaning ‘me’ in Parisian slang) is one of the rarest bird and freest spirit when it comes to the French electronic music scene. Off-the-wall leading figure of the house made in Paris, he is particularly known for breaking genre codes with ridiculous energy. Co-founder of the D.KO Records team in 2013, he acts in favor of a powerful and festive house revival alongside equally talented buddies like LB aka LABAT, Mad Rey or Paul Cut. They started as a DJ crew organizing the Keep D.KO Alive parties in local bars before quickly gaining recognition and becoming one of the top house labels in France. As a producer, he owes his early success to his banger track ‘Du Son Pour Les Gars Sûrs’ in 2016 - utterly distinctive of his personal touch: a bass-driven house with subtile deep, lo-fi and acid notes. No wonder that he got his well-deserved Boiler Room in 2019. He has been unstoppable lately and earned a residency called “Mezmère Résidence” at the iconic Rex Club where he invited top talents such as Funkineven, DMX Krew or AliA. If you are luck enough to see him play, expect a crazy oscillation of house, disco, hip-hop and drum & bass.

In this 3-year anniversary mix, he’s going back to the basics distilling a gut-wrenching deep house with pleasant acid touches from Willow or Birds of Canada. The summer season has never been so properly opened guys!

Origins" is a collection of 6 pillars in exploratory electronic music from 6 different uprising producers and sound artists. A varied, yet cohesive collection of bright, meditative, and pulsating atmospheres.

The opening track, "Hornet", from Florida's Alien House uncovers otherworldly landscapes as they traverse through a haze of deep-space electro. Fluttering synths fill barren craters where shadow figures lurk in and out of light. Rising and rising with a strange, euphoric tension.

The elusive Joe Gigs follows suit with "Time Slip", a slow-rolling house arrangement that stutters underneath a chord phrase built for an endless sunrise. Faint vocals echo out as an introspective flute pattern comes into view. Finally met with a warm, slinky bass-line that tingles the spine.

Continuing on with the house grooves, Portland's Well Being gives us "Soft Mood", which is just that. Shiny, crisp percussive elements ride a groove that peaks and valleys in all the right ways. Gentle acid bass echoes out in radar ping patterns while swells of smooth synth and indistinct vocal chops fill the room.

Starting on the flipside we have a choice cut from Austin, TX stalwart, Corduroi. Deep, lush synths become the lifeblood of "Planet Cool" while a break-ish rhythm catapults us into orbit. Acid bass sequences drip like honey as the synths gain energy and form. Suddenly we find ourselves four on the floor as every element seamlessly lives as one.

Nestled in the middle of side B features "Cloud Mirror" from Akasha System. Hushed out toms and broken snares meet breathy, misty synths before the sub bass guides us into the next realm. Suddenly a hazy bell phrase comes into view followed by mysterious clicks and clacks. And of course, what A.S. song would be complete without a dreamy mallet section?

Couldn't think of a better finale than this epic journey of a track from LA's Pkacarl. "Holding Together" starts us off with an end-of-the-world piano scenario before being joined by what can only be described as an electric guitar oozing through the portals of an entire galaxy of synths and pedals. What really makes this song is the mind-crushing bass-line with an invincible spirit that may keep you dancing infinitely.

Whilst the club setting may feel detached from many of us at this time, Secretsundaze’s forthcoming release, courtesy of the Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, will transport you back to the depths of the dancefloor’s energy. A three track EP which is sustained by Ziggy Zeitgeist’s rhythmic consistency on the drums – his scintillating live performance at Church of Sound in August 2019 caught the eyes of the label, leading to the fruition of this project.

His sonically ambidextrous ear has culminated in this compelling piece of work. Having met Berlin-based artist Wayne Snow at a record shop in Neukölln, the pair started jamming together at a converted office space in a building that was attached to a techno club. Their afterhours sessions were mixed with spontaneous trips to the club, allowing Wayne’s soulful vocals and Ziggy’s broken drum patterns to seamlessly merge with the darker, more heavy textures of the club environment.

Wayne’s silky offering on Something Special allows the serenading seven-and-a-half-minute meditation to unravel gradually, enchanting the dancer with its harmonious house beat, accompanied alongside interweaving melodic layers, from Finn Rees on keys, that build its trance.
