Beside the railway depot, beyond the equinox, the atmosphere felt tense. Movement defined the top of the arches, but in the darkness beneath, there was little much kinetic or soulful with which to connect. Bird song crept into the nocturne, it's inky black sky beginning to bleed blue.

A whole year on from his debut on Hot Concept, Bleaching Agent continues his journey "from gabber to Goldfrapp" with another exemplary EP on Hot Concept, the Berlin-based label run by John Loveless. A comforting sound distinguishes this record, it is gentle and deep at the same time. If A1 - Sky City feels like diving in calm water, A2 - Jet Fuel could soundtrack a romantic date. On the flip B1 - October has a cinematic personality, envisioning a urban landscape, while B2 - Stereo Sense expresses a special dynamicity of sound. Don't get tricked by my rather emotional introduction though, Neal knows about beats and you'll hear. From breakbeat to funk, Chicago house to dub this EP is all-round a delightful expression of contemporary club music.

After a spate of 12” releases on local Bristol-based labels, including ‘Multiverse by Moonlight’ on COD3 QR that drew overwhelming support from everyone from Prins Thomas and Tornado Wallace to Vladimir Ivkovic, Remotif has decided the time is ripe to take the plunge and start his own vinyl imprint. Say hello to Familiar Strangers. 
 Starting primarily as an outlet for Remotif’s own material, releases on Familiar Strangers will draw influence from everything from deep house and Balearic, to new wave, breakbeat and beyond. The title track perfectly encapsulates this Magpie-like ethos to production. Wisps of distant saxophone sit far away amongst a chorale glow, as percussive elements pierce the mist to keep our feet rooted on the shore. In the foreground, steel drums sit atop a languid, elasticated breakbeat. 
 ‘Drunk On Cowboy Love’ (inspired by one too many late night sessions playing Red Dead Redemption) breaks through the haze to provide a bouncy uplifting ride. Fidgety, unpredictable breakbeats underpin a playful bassline and an expanse of twinkling chimes. 
 Where Drunk on Cowboy Love feels futuristic and nimble, Atocha Familiar is warm, and close. Shuffling percussion and submerged vocals draw from the Balaeric sound palette but with a sense of projection that is characteristically Remotif.  
The wonderful Flora FM (Kalahari Oyster Cult/Planet Euphorique) turns in a party-rousing reinterpretation. The melodic elements of the original remain but are pulled taut along the tension of his frenetic drum workout. Jittery stabs of vocal and synth are folded in among the unrelenting pull of the rework, in a thrilling ending to a varied and accomplished EP.

Jon Jones is a young 21 year old Australian artist. Creating a new style of Australiana influenced trance and deeply influenced by the beautiful outer-Melbourne suburb Warrandyte, he presents his EP "Warrandyte Bridge Reno" on the local Southern Exposure imprint.
This EP was created on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations and we’d like to pay our respects to their elders, past, present and emerging. Sovereignty has never ceded. This always was and always will be, Aboriginal Land.
First track off Southern Exposure’s debut EP. Warrandyte Bridge Reno is a reflection of its environment with dense percussion and beautiful synth work. Jon Jones’ musical interpretation of a unique place in Australia shows his deep love for the suburb.

[PP048] Eden Burns BBM Vol. II (Snippets)

When you find DJ Sotofett and Telephones on remix duties for the mighty Joan Bibiloni it’s sure to be a treat. For the 22nd installment in the saft series, two of Bibiloni’s greatest numbers from ‘Born’ (1989), are re-imagined for the occasion.

Sotofett opens up the A side with an extended version of Bibiloni’s ‘El Sur’. Clocking in just under twelve minutes, the so-called ‘mastermix’ is a version in the vein of the extended disco singles from the era of the original. Sotofett’s supernatural dancefloor touch centers around Bibiloni’s guitar-licks that gently slide along and communicate with the other elements of the original. This is a version to close a night with - or better yet - to close a summer set just before
sundown.

The B side contains a reworked version of ‘Sa Fosca’ by another Norwegian artist: Telephones. ‘Telephones Coastal Dub’, is another lengthy endeavor. The ten (and something) minutes long venture keeps in line with the Mallorcan character of the Bibiloni sound, while giving it a subtle touch of dancefloor, complete with the signature lead of the original as the focal point. The extensive intro and the balance between breeziness and firmness is sharply done and will make sure that the version can find its way into numerous settings.
