Waltz In Shades Of Gray - Improvised Piano Piece

method: some atonal fun with the plastic midi keyboard on a rainy evening
narration: the poem is quite some decades old - last century, millennium even, and all that. it was quite a different life I led back then. the original title is: "an antenna cast into the open" - this also was the first line when I wrote the poem .... but I skipped it for this version, jettisoning the poem into the imbalance that suits its sonification's atonal qualities.

Creating this piece was like "Dawn" itself. Starting slow with a misty feeling. Then the sun rises with a slightly faster piano melody. Accompanied with some background strings and cello. Getting a discovering/emerging mood. What is your feeling with it?

The music was derived from item 50 in "140 Folk-Songs for Grades I, II and III, Volume 7" (1922) using OMR. We used that product to produce a piano version faithful to the source, and also a version that separated the parts into a simple orchestration with the addition of a percussion part.

A few months after our original recordings we revisited and rearranged the cinematic version to better accompany Corinne Becknell Lucas' performance of Ophelias mournful words. Unlike our source book we included all three verses of "Ophelia's Song" from Act 4, Scene 5 of Shakespear's Hamlet, and also added an instrumental interlude.
