El grupo santandereano Diente de León presenta su más reciente creación, “Fallo Desdémona”,obra teatral que explora la violencia de género a partir de una reinterpretación del clásico Otelo de William Shakespeare. 

La obra de teatro dirigida por Manuel José Jaimes, trata de entrelazar la literatura, la realidad social y los testimonios de mujeres que han enfrentado distintos tipos de violencia y a través de un lenguaje poético y testimonial, la obra pone en evidencia cómo los celos y la manipulación pueden ser los primeros signos de agresión, invitando al espectador a reconocer esas dinámicas antes de que se conviertan en daño físico o emocional.
Durante el proceso de creación, Jaimes encuentra en los relatos reales un punto de partida para construir la estructura del montaje.

“Entonces empezó a surgir la idea de empezar a utilizar testimonios de mujeres maltratadas y cotejarlos con el texto de Shakespeare. Eso me empezó a dar una primera idea de la estructura inicial de este montaje.”

El proyecto fue seleccionado en los estímulos de Cultura con Berraquera 2025, convocatoria que apoya procesos artísticos en Santander.

“Vino esta oportunidad de participar en las becas o en los estímulos de Cultura con Berraquera 2025, de los cuales fuimos favorecidos y por eso vamos a hacer este estreno el 11 de noviembre.”

La puesta en escena combina recursos del teatro contemporáneo y utiliza el concepto de texto material, que integra fuentes no teatrales como ensayos, estadísticas y testimonios para transformarlas en expresión escénica. 

A través de este enfoque, “Fallo Desdémona” no busca ofrecer respuestas cerradas, sino abrir un espacio de reflexión sobre las múltiples formas en que se manifiesta la violencia de género, como lo afirma Manuel José Jaimes.

“No es una obra pedagógica, es una obra que quiere ser un cuestionador del comportamiento social, entonces yo creo que van a salir muchos puntos de vista, porque vuelvo a la pregunta del inicio, la pregunta sobre por qué una mujer maltratada sigue en una relación afectiva no tiene una sola respuesta.La violencia de género tampoco tiene una sola respuesta.”

Después de cada función, el colectivo realiza un teatro-foro con participación del público y de organizaciones que trabajan por los derechos de las mujeres, para abrir un diálogo que permita comprender el fenómeno desde diferentes perspectivas.

Fallo Desdémona se estrena el martes 11 de noviembre a las 7:30 p. m. en el Teatro Escuela del Teatro Santander, con entrada libre hasta completar aforo.

If you’re searching for someone who lives and breathes Shakespeare’s verse, Colin David Reese might just be your guru. Through this show, Colin David Reese unpicks history, performance practice, and the actor’s relationship with Shakespeare’s texts, offering audiences a compelling insight into how his legacy was preserved and understood by his contemporaries.

Colin also runs workshops for actors. In these sessions, he teaches a method that integrates textual analysis, verse rhythm, breathing techniques, articulation, and physical movement. He encourages participants to work with facsimiles of original Folio pages, explore cue-scripts, and reconnect with the way Shakespeare’s actors would have worked on stage. His style is rigorous yet playful, scholarly yet very much grounded in human experience. For actors, students or fans, Colin David Reese provides a pathway to engage with Shakespeare in a way that feels alive, practical and deeply rewarding.

Just the way I observe the world... I write a mix of genres, all with a lyrical emphasis: blues/jazz, pop, indie, folk and country. Mostly record live takes of me singing/playing but started using Suno to produce demos of all my songs to get them in the ether. I'm starting to focus my efforts on recording my vocals on my favourite songs for my debut album I'm hoping to release by the end of 2026 - stay tuned.
