Transmission Communications (Trans:Com) is an independent record label based in Brisbane, Australia. We first established back in 1994 and we remain Brisbane’s original of the species – approaching our 20th year of activity.

We focus on production and performance of music across the spectrum of electronic influence. Trans:Com is not a major, and it is not a large company. It’s a business run by individuals with a passion for electronic music.

The label was originally formed to activate and support a completely new sector of music production and performance in a city previously known only for its quirky guitar-pop, grunge, and rock output. Many years later, Brisbane and indeed Australia has a very healthy electronic music scene with a solid range of originators of the genre, several important clubs, DJ’s, studios, producers, and a string of successful events. The city has developed into a key centre for electronic-music activity in the country.

Physically speaking, Trans:Com has released seminal compilations of local electronic music (Evidence, Cyberia, Abstraction) along with numerous individual bands, acts, and projects - including Projekt Inertia (formerly Inertia), Victor X-Ray, Low Key Operations and Nude Productions (now lowkey+nude), Pure Bunk, Sphere, Alieonix, Blood Party, Ande, Stormboy, VISI, Dharma Buffer, 8E38, The Isle, Jandy Rainbow, Dogmachine, Ostia, Tycho Brahe, All Electric Kitchen, Glitch, and Morgan Geist. We have also collaborated with Boxcar, Severed Heads, Lawrence English, Loveless, Dizzygotheca, Taiyo, and My Ninja Lover.

Having done the whole CD, vinyl, video, and cassette thing, the label is now focussed on digital distribution; providing its catalogue through iTunes and others, as well as an aggregation service for independent artists and other cottage labels.

Additionally, Trans:Com is passionate about the live context of electronic music - having organised key Brisbane electronica showcase events including Cyberia (1995), 101 (2001), The Silhouette Series (2006), and Upgrade (2007) amongst many others. We feel that, now more than ever, it is crucial to bridge the online- yet- disconnected world of digital music with the intimate experience that can only be gained through a live performance.

In doing so, Trans:Com has provided the platform for numerous bands and artists to commence their careers, collaborated with many others, marshalled the development of Brisbane as the new Australian centre for electronic music production and performance, and above all supported the ideology and ethics of independence, art and alternative media.

Our motto remains to this day; Progressive, Innovative, Electronica.
