Japji Sahib English Explanation Katha of 33rd Pauri

This recording focuses on the 33rd Pauri of Sri Jap Ji Sahib where Guru Nanak Sahib states "Aakhan Jor, Chuppai Na Jor". We look at the idea of realising that we actually have no power or energy in our own hands and that everything is in Gods hands. We look at why this is given as the second step in the path of Enlightenment, ie to have the right mindset (vichaar) so that we can progress without pride and judgmental tendencies. We examine the debate of destiny vs action and also the idea of relying upon Vaheguru, Guru and Gurus Name rather than just our own power.

We sing Vaheguru Simran and kirtan of "Madho Har Har Har Mukh Kehiai, Hum Te Kachoo Na Hovai Suaami, Jio Raakho Tio Rehieai" by Guru Arjan Paatshah. The kirtan was done by Bhai Gobind Singh from Hounslow.

With Guru's blessings, the Sikhi in English series will be going through the entire Sri Jap Ji Sahib, (the very first Bani in Sri Guru Granth Sahib) and trying understand it in English alongside singing Gurbani kirtan to help explain further.

The programme is held every Sunday from 6-7pm at Park Avenue Gurdwara, Southall. English katha alongside kirtan and simran by local kirtanees. Please give us your darshan and sangat.

The THIRTY-THIRD PAURI destroys your ego and brings forth your divinity. It removes negativity, neutralizes your destructive nature (sikh dharma)

Aakhan jor chupai neh jor

Jor na surtee gi-aan veechaar

The power to speak or keep silent,
I don't have that power.
I don't have the power to beg or to give.
When I live, when I die, is far beyond my power.
I have no power to rule as a King, with wealth
Or through the force of my own mental manipulations.
I have no power to attach myself to God through meditation,
Or to attain wisdom, or to reflect on what I see.
I have no power to know the way to liberate myself from the world.
Whose Hand Holds this power?
The One who does and sees all.
Nanak, no one is high and no one is low.

Uttering brings no power; silence brings no power.
Power is not gained by begging; giving doesn’t bring power.
Power is not gained by living; death doesn’t bring power.
Power is not gained by ruling with wealth and occult mental powers.
Power is not gained by understanding, spiritual wisdom and meditation.
Power is not gained by finding a way to escape from the world.
In whose Hand the Power is, He watches over all.
O Nanak, no one is high or low.
