Well, here we are again...

As the weather gets better, and the temperature rises we all need the correct musical selections to accent the mood. Who better to do this than our friends the mighty mighty DOMply crew out of Rio De Janeiro? A multi-faceted gang of French and Brazilian diggers and party organisers who push a unique style and sound. 

Craig Ouar has been our friend for a couple of years now, and was the best host you could ever ask for on GGHQ's recent Brazil tour, welcoming us into his home and showing us the incredible sights and sounds of Rio and Sao Paolo. Craig and Simon (Who also happens to be one of the guys behind the dope Parisian Bayetë collective) are 2 members of what is a bigger picture (big big love to Giu, Pino, Mauricio, Cleo, Andre, Juliana and everyone else too!) and their 2+ hour mix showcases a true flavour of what DOMply and their incredible parties are all about - an original collection of deep Brazilian and global sounds that are definitely the result of their surroundings and broad influences. 

This is a very special mix for us, and is soaked in colour, style and good feeling. Perfect as we roll into the brighter days!

Back to our mix series with this wonderful offering from Marijana Croon.  Originally from Belgrade but now based in Cologne, Marijana is a molecular biologist as well as a vibrant member of her local scene. In normal times she can be found DJing in places like Salon des Amateurs and Acephale and hosting her radio show 'Deflections' on Retreat Radio. 

Her Phase Group mix fuses otherworldly sound designs with echoing percussion pieces and slow dark club music for the twilight hours, futuristic synthesised environments dripping with reverb and long echoes inducing trance states and transcendence. Thanks Marijana!

Our society leads many of us on very weird paths, if it comes to manage our mental illness or personal crisis. It seems abnormal, pathologic and sick. The western mind has to be controlled in any circumstances. 

In the shamanic view, mental illness signals “the birth of a healer". Thus, mental disorders are spiritual emergencies, spiritual crises, and need to be regarded as such to aid the healer in being born. What those in the west view as mental illness, the Dagara people regard as “good news from the other world.” The person going through the crisis has been chosen as a medium for a message to the community that needs to be communicated from the spirit realm.

In the Dagara tradition, the community helps the person reconcile the energies of both worlds–“the world of the spirit that he or she is merged with, and the village and community.” That person is able then to serve as a bridge between the worlds and help the living with the information and healing they need. Thus, the spiritual crisis ends with the birth of another healer.

In our never ending quest to meet as many peers as we possibly can across an ever-expanding planetary soundscape, we have managed to get acquainted to the work of a multitude of fantastic people whose devotion to not only seeking but sharing the wealth of sonic treasures the globe holds resonates deeply with our mission. The same that fuels this series and has helped us cover a vast geographical area as well as discover many musical eras in our encounters. This one, for instance, brings us closer to the talents of a young French ensemble whose collective efforts have unearthed precious gems to cut them into gorgeous edits and place them in stunning jewels such as the selection we present here. Pompelope's passionate multifront work involves most things that connects us to all kinds of music in order to generate those special pleasures we hold dearest, from lively events to selling and distributing fantastic records, but also putting together delightful compilations such as the much lauded "Foule Contact" and this voyage of a mix. Fraîcheur française dans une saveur globale.
