Recently, a retired priest who is a great mate of his sister-in-law’s uncle was admitted to hospital after a medical episode during Mass. Thanks to the mobile phone “ring around” Fr Mike became aware of the priest’s situation before the priest’s sister in a classic case of how someone had rung someone on the mainland who had rung Fr Mike’s brother who had rung Fr Mike who then contacted the priest’s sister. There’s an old saying that says – once upon a time the phone was attached to the wall and we were free to wander wherever we wanted but now we are attached to the phones and our freedom is gone. Fr Mike wonders how often do we really appreciate our mobile phone and all the things that it can do to help people and make life easier or do we now just take it for granted.)
