Countering a pop landscape dominated by chillbangers, Avante Black’s dizzying, expansive alt-pop sound exists as a shift to something new.
 
With compelling lyrics that speak for her generation, Ottilia and the band exude an attitude that embodies both current discomfort and complacency. With unexpected and expansive melodies, the band’s screwy euphoria has hit home across international borders.
 
Previous releases saw Avante Black included in  '2017 Ones To Watch’ lists as well as racking up Huw Stephen’s BBC Radio 1 support, widespread acclaim across NYLON, The Line Of Best Fit, Wonderland, Popjustice, Idolator, Spindle Magazine and a Top 3 main chart position on Hype Machine. ‘Drug Money’ continued its trajectory with a remix by Scandi-pop favourites Anna Of The North and a trippy, kaleidoscopic video directed by Alden Volney (Jamie xx, Temples).
 
Singer-songwriter Ottiila grew up in the city Uppsala north of Stockholm. With Bob Dylan lyrics tattooed on her arm and an instinctive way with words, she wrote her first song at 15-years-old. Now living in London and applauded with songwriting references as varied as Tove Lo, Maggie Rogers and Lana Del Rey, Ottilia’s unfiltered soul and knack for song writing belies her 22-years.

Now one of dance music’s most respected DJs, Avalon Emerson first made a name for herself in the storied warehouse scene of her birthplace, San Francisco, before relocating to Berlin in 2013. Over a decade of performances at the famed Berghain led to appearances at numerous festivals around the world which all cemented Emerson, and her evocative, genre- and decade-spanning sets, as perennially in demand. 

In 2020, she released her first full-length collection: a contribution to the longrunning DJ-Kicks series (which Resident Advisor described as “The sound of a well-honed DJ at the top of her game.”), nestled alongside a steady stream of remix releases for the likes of Four Tet, Slowdive, Robyn and more.

Next up was 2023’s Avalon Emerson & The Charm, an instant classic which saw Emerson exploring her singing voice and more traditional songwriting outside of the boundaries of her dance music work.  Created after a move to New York, the resulting & The Charm album was released to critical acclaim, landing on numerous critics’ best-of-the-year lists.

The stage is now set, then, for her to carve out a wholly unique path, and with the help of new label home and indie giant, Dead Oceans, Emerson is poised to connect her various musical endeavors to create an untouchably rich output of material. First up is Perpetual Emotion Machine, consisting of songs created for her DJ sets, delivered via a living, evolving project and announced ahead of her worldwide tour.

Revered producer and composer Daniel Avery returns with a new album and live show, his most ambitious works to date. Channelling every corner of his sound, Tremor is a bold and transportive body of work through euphoric shoegaze, submerged techno, ambient soundscape and industrial bliss. It remains unmistakably Avery, yet dramatically evolved.


With the album Avery has welcomed an inspiring cast of collaborators, including the likes of Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Walter Schreifels (Quicksand / Rival Schools), bdrmm, Julie Dawson (NewDad), yeule, Ellie, Art School Girlfriend, yunè pinku, and Cecile Believe. Each artist leaves their indelible mark, yet the record’s true power lies in the communal spirit at its core.

“This is a living and breathing collective,” says Avery. “Since the earliest recordings, Tremor felt like a studio in the sky, a space in time through which we could all pass as artists”, he reflects. “It’s the welcoming spirit of acid house with the doors flung open wider still to allow in every influence from my musical journey: the warmth of distortion, the stillness inside intensity, the transcendental beauty of noise... They have always been there in my music but now it feels like those ideas are being transmitted in Technicolor. This is a record for the post-rave comedown kids, the guitar heads and anyone else who wants to come along for the ride. Everyone is welcome.”

Tremor will be released by Avery’s new home of Domino on 31st October.
