J-Rod Records Ltd was founded by Jarrod ‘J-Rod’ Faria in 2009. An avid music enthusiast Jarrod started out in the music industry as a member of the Trinidadian based sound system Fire Star Disco, from there he moved on to university in Canada and started djing under the name Dj J-Rod. In late 2009 Jarrod linked up with the New Zealand based label High Stakes Records who played a beautiful, melodic reggae riddim known now as the 2nd chances riddim. He also connected with other producers around the globe that were building soca, dancehall, reggaeton and reggae riddims. The focus and goal of J-Rod records is to produce high quality Caribbean music and promote this music to new territories the world over. J-Rod Records has already worked with some of the biggest names in the reggae music industry and is looking forward to expanding into both the dancehall and soca arena in years to come.

Riki Lindhome talks to people in the entertainment industry and asks them how they got their careers. There's no road map for show business and everyone's story is different, so Riki interviews people about how they started, how they've kept it going and what they've learned along the way.

The journey of the Austrian DJ and producer began in the year 2011 with unique vinyl selections of reggae & Jamaican roots music. Highly passionate about creating unique DJ sets and releasing digital mixtapes in these genres, he has gathered more and more of an audience by spinning the turntables in his hometown scene, Vienna, throughout the years. 

His project benefiting a charity initiative in Ethiopia and the collaboration within various dub sound systems and producers has found a lot of shared interest and support from all over the world. Love to this non-profit, social care and his motivation has summed a donation out of 400 mixtape CDs, which were sold for Langano, a village close to Addis Ababa. This has supported educational and agricultural sectors, built awareness about HIV & Aids and provided better healthcare in the village!

New doors have opened to a new level following the DJ path in the reggae & hip-hop scene and developing through the study of sound engineering in 2016. His music productions have found a lot of interest in many radios, magazines and in the ears of numerous artists like Lee Scratch Perry, Mowty Mahlyka and General Levy who was featured on the latest releases. 

The upcoming release on his label Rasfimillia Productions is a collaboration with the French artist Taiwan MC, part of Chinese Man Records, and junglist FLeCK from Greece.

The transatlantic duo AM & Shawn Lee continue their journey forward via the past on their album Outlines, digging heavily into obscure soul, sound library and soundtracks for inspiration and re-imagine them through a pop lens.  AM & Shawn Lee focus heavily on synthesizers, but still keep the core organic, with live drums and bass and of course placing a heavy importance on groove.  

Sonically Outlines tips it's hat to other synthesized soul productions such as The System or The Blackbyrds . 

The first single "Persuasion" sets up the album perfectly with a revolving, atmospheric synth pattern suddenly interrupted by a deep funk groove peppered with staccato vocal stylings.  "Cold Tears", a heartbreaking tale of a friend's false imprisonment, flows over galloping funk and sinister synths.  "Again and Again", perhaps the epitome of sparse groove, is a perfect mid-tempo cruiser and a clear nod to AM's past tour mates AIR, while "Nightshine" delivers demented aerobic pop...picture Olivia Newton John's "Physical" set to a John Carpenter film.

The album title Outlines plays on a double meaning.  On the one hand the record sounds like a "trace", giving no more than necessary to the production...the essentials.  Lyrically, there is an undercurrent of an all too familiar modern struggle...the failure to communicate.  We're only giving each other shorthand… “the outlines.”
AM & Shawn Lee's musical and artistic chemistry is very obvious especially since they have never recorded in the same room together.  The duo trade tracks between London and Los Angeles until they feel the songs are complete.  The process is ego-less, and both AM and Shawn Lee play nearly every instrument on the record. 
Outlines is by far AM & Shawn Lee's favorite recording to date.  Minimalist, future soul re-worked for today, but never forgetting what came before. Above all the music just soars. …Like hang gliding into a summer sunset.
