There’s always private pleasure in seeing beauty where others don’t. Sometimes it’s just a case of the personal outweighing the spectacular but in a part of the world as vast and stunning as Yorkshire, the abundance of scenery makes finding that place an infinitely easier coincidence. Ilkley or ‘Heather Spa’ is one such place for 36 aka Dennis Huddleston. A moorland area on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, it’s served as both a place of escape and inspiration.

“It’s a place I’ve visited many times at various stages of my life,” he begins, “coming from Bradford, which has had its fair share of social and economic problems over the years, Ilkley provided an escape from the city and is somewhere me and my friends spent many days and nights. It isn't the largest, nor the most beautiful countryside in England, but it has an undeniable charm that’s felt by everyone who’s visited.”

You feel that connection throughout ‘Heather Spa’. It’s one of familiarity and rejuvenation with the exhale of the strings evoking happiness and a gazing contentment. ‘Heather Spa (Burning)’ is just as poised and gentle with its slow, weaving melodies and whilst it’s more clouded and subdued, it leaves a determinedly resonant impression.

“There was a huge fire in 2006 which destroyed vast areas of the moorland,” Dennis explains. “I had visited it only a few days prior and the lush green land was replaced by charred cinders, completely decimating the landscape. It was quite a sight to behold and there was an undeniable melancholy in the air. Reseeding efforts and the tough will of nature has reversed most of the damage and Ilkley Moor is alive once again.”

The initial inspiration for the ‘Shadow Play’ album, this final instalment of ‘Heather Spa’ marks the culmination of Dennis’ personal trilogy, and helps the ‘Heather Spa EP’ feel like a very natural conclusion to a journey of transition, progression and redemption.

"It's come full-circle in a way,” Dennis muses, “Heather Spa as a concept was the catalyst for my latest album 'Shadow Play' and you can see three distinct yet fully-connected chapters on what is a single story; the inception with Heather Spa, the realisation with Shadow Play, and finally with this EP for the ASIP Places Series, an epilogue. I think they're some of the most emotional pieces of music I've worked on and I hope you enjoy taking this final journey with me, right back at the place where it started."

Layered with mechanical undertones it creates a unique atmosphere. An enlightening voyage to the center of Mysticism. Blackened machines summon dread, while the spiritual world knocks on the door of reality. 

The stench of decay stand in stark contrast to the awakened mind. We feel throbbing bass one minute, the other surrounded by murmuring crowds. From within them the cough of pestilence echo through halls that never end. 

This is fresh twist on the dark ambient genre and drone music.

Rumbling drone hits your chest, a smooth contour of bass stroking a distant piano. Subdued humming flows out of Pär's nightly studio into the cold Swedish winter. God Body Disconnect presents us with the next chapter in his saga of a comatose man banished to the recesses of his tortured mind. 
The journey begins taking us back to the fateful night of his sentencing. Beyond the halls of beeping machines, whirling sirens echo in the distance. Blackened clouds grumble down a bitter melody of tears upon the streets. A single shot blares between your ears, dropping you to the bed of concrete below. Here we witness the transformation of a once awakened man turned to sleeping prisoner. 

Plunging deeper into the heart of the unconscious mind, the doors to a mysterious labyrinth emerge before us. From behind the towering walls, strange voices beckon us to enter. We insert and turn the key, unlocking a hidden portal to the past. A forgotten dimension, where once suppressed memories now filter through the lens of the surreal. This is the place where our darkest reflections go to hide. Self-perception is liquid here, and the emotional landscapes morph at will.

Deep bass, ethereal guitar and post rock influences mixed with Vocal narration and Binaural field recordings, This album has it all. A sonic explosion of the senses and a deeply moving and personal experience brought to the microphone.

ASIP014 Markus Guentner - Dockside

Vinland is the third and last album in Northumbria’s trilogy inspired by the Norse discovery of Canada. 

The journey was long and hard, you lost good men sailing across the never ending sea, but now you stand on foreign land. The father of gods watches over you as his ravens circle the funeral pyre to bring his warriors home. 

The rocks here emanate a low hum, the silent wind carries the scent of honey and at nightly camp bestial cries echo between the mountains. Your men speak in hushed voices as the dark creeps close, they mutter about this being the territory of new gods. This dreamy land is getting to your people, some men wake screaming in the blackest hour from visions delivered by the dark below. But for you this expedition is one of enlightenment, the fresh rivers fill your mouth with the light of Yggdrasil, forests carry whispers from the mead halls beyond and as such have you convinced that this is the pathway between the worlds of gods and men. 

Using guitar and bass, and recording their improvised compositions live, Jim Field and Dorian Williamson create a deep textured sound world. Evoking the ancient wonder that the Norse explorers must have felt discovering Vinland, the Windswept Land.

My mission is to discover and share the most intriguing music I can get my ears on. I always strive for a discerning sensibility to bring together diverse selections. From dance-floors to galleries and lounges, even yoga studios, I adapt well to immerse each space and paint the walls with just the right music for the moment. At once spacious and solid, spontaneous and cohesive, amusing and genuine.

DJ experience began on WRLC college radio ['95-'99] and continued with residencies at several eclectic venues in downtown Jersey City. While playing the bars of NYC and NJ has its charm, I also enjoy bringing music to warehouse spaces, transit plazas, backyards and community gardens, as well as forgotten corners of the forest.

From 2002-17, my humble abode was a cozy live/work space we call Railroad Studio. Serving as an audio/design lab, Railroad has been a memorable feature of city-wide events, bursting with musical performances, live painting and video projection. Our collective includes visual artist Jessie Cara [Railroad's co-creator], local indie-folk band Land of the Look Behind, projectionists Anna Almquist and Liv Arts, light sculptor Norm Francoeur, and vocalists Sirena, Carolyn Light and Bioluminescence. House concerts featured Spinning Leaves [Philly], Lost Leaders [NYC] and Las Vandelays [NJ].

In summer of 2015, we expanded to a sister space in the woodlands north of Philadelphia known as Culture Den, where we merged music, visual arts, and wellness to build community, support local entrepreneurs and foster creativity...
