With the recent track record he’s had, Purple Disco Machine is well past the point of having to prove he has the goods. But just in case you still weren’t sure, the tenacious tunesmith has teamed up with fellow German comrade Boris Dlugosch on “L.O.V.E.” Landing on Defected next week, the collab sees these two house cohorts slip into your personal space with a carnal cut that is equal parts hot and heavy. Between the jerking keys, a wailing vocal delivery, and slow-strutting basslines, this one will put you over the boiling point.

What is there to say about an iconic track like ‘Lola’s Theme’; a song that has transcended time, genres and trends since it was released in 2004. Thirteen years later and still sounding as relevant as ever, The Shapeshifters present a fresh Recut especially for the burgeoning Glitterbox Recordings imprint. 

The ‘Recut’ itself, from The Shapeshifters themselves (aka Max Reich and Simon Marlin) is a tougher club version which comes along with a ‘Radio Edit’. Purple Disco Machine gives his customary blissed-out disco vibes, amped up by sumptuously saturated instrumentals and a live, festival feel. German producer Superlover, who is a familiar face on labels such as Suara and Mother, gets creative with the bassline, producing a deeper-reaching remix that still maintains the euphoric feel. Finally, Dr Packer adds instrumentation, filtering the vocal to create the nostalgic, early 2000s feel, brought to a climax by a textbook keyboard solo. Recruiting two seasoned masters of the disco edit and Glitterbox favourites Dr Packer and Purple Disco Machine as well as king of tight grooves Superlover, ‘Lola’s Theme Recut’ is the perfect 2017 update to a timeless work of art.

Presenting his long awaited full-length album, the king of disco re-edits Dr Packer graces Glitterbox Recordings with six brand new mixes alongside twelve of his rare cuts and well-loved treasures. Dr Packer’s Different Strokes features Dr Packer versions of soulful house favourites, disco standards and groove-laden floorfillers. Following two DJ mixes from Dr Packer featuring bonus tracks, the album kicks off with a bonafide classic. Dr Packer’s take on Soulsearcher’s ‘Can’t Get Enough!’ maintains all its most iconic elements, the euphoric vocals and timeless groove given a fresh-sounding elasticity. Another highlight and an album exclusive, ‘Big Love’ from Peter Heller’s Big Love is brim full of Dr Packer’s unmistakeable warmth, cowbell accents giving the groove some bump. Next is Dr Packer’s remix of The Shapeshifter’s evergreen ‘Lola’s Theme Recut’ followed by another album exclusive, Candi Staton’s ‘Hallelujah Anyway’. 4 To The Floor present Sandy Rivera’s feel-good late-90s house anthem ‘Come Into My Room’ featuring LT Brown in this mega nine-track release. The much-loved Take It Back Mix, a Sandy Rivera and Jose Burgos (aka Soulvision) production, has repeated soft funk-infused riffs behind husky vocals and bass kicks, alongside their Dub version. This package also features Sandy’s Original Mix and the bouncing 09 Remix. UK producer Mark Knight showcases his blossoming sound in his warped Toolroom Boys Mix with its wobbling bassline. The Australian duo call on Rocco Rodamaal and Larse for cosmic reproductions on this dazzling Defected debut release. Lyon producer Rocco takes a housey route, laying down a rumbling low-end and ramping up the energy with dizzying pads. Keeping to the emotive undertone, Larse pulls out the delicate keys and mixes in soft bass stabs in his ‘Full Moon’ rendition. Unleashing sweet euphoria like real music should, ‘Midnight Love’ is a cut above the rest.
