A little town in northeastern California used to be a mill town with a prison.  Today, the mill stands still. The towers remain a reminder of a much different time.

In the old saw mill
The blades of the saws
Once hot from the cut
sit cold and still

mountains surround
A small valley town 
At the foot of the hills
A small lonely place
With the never sweat pace
of Susanville 


The cold winter days pass 
into warm summer nights 
The Old town shines on the Main Street 
in bold neon light
The  bitter brush covers a dry desert land 
to the tree covered hills
An old lumber town that's hardly renowned called Susanville 

Roll the lumber

Is how our money is made

New Industry grows 
time served for crime
Jobs to be filled
The cops and the cons 
Face off behind walls 
The state pays the bill

The old mill still stands
holding it's ground 
In hope of living again
Lost spirits are found
in this High Desert town
Called Susanville
