Francine Almeda is a Chicago-based, Filipina-American DJ, gallerist, and curator. She is the founder and director of Tala, a gallery and contemporary art space in Chicago. 

Her practice navigates curations of space and sound in pursuit of expanse - courageously traversing across disciplines, genres, and eras in order to parse through and reorient sounds from lesser-known times and places. Francine DJ’s between both digital and vinyl, leaning upon the latter as an archival practice tracing joy across generations. 

Raised in the clubs of Chicago and shaped by its history of house music while honoring her Filipino roots, Francine’s sound evokes the shining darkness of a dancefloors peak moments - plunging into driving bass and infectious grooves, tempered at times by warm nostalgia from southeast asia. 

Francine places herself distinctly in the realm of the sonic illegibility - celebrating the confluence of being from neither here nor there, using music as a metaphor of living euphorically in between.
