For their sixth instalment, Lowlife Cartel follow up to their last two compilations (“Pimps Improvisations” in 2018 and “Omnia Vanitas” in 2020) with a new six-track VA named “Kodoku”; a vortical release, both bold and forward-looking, while fully geared for the club environment. Taking its title from a poisonous magic from the medieval Japanese era obtained by placing several venomous insects in a jar and letting them kill one another until only one survives, “Kodoku” - which interestingly also translates as “solitude” - features a cast of producers old and new to the fold including Saverio Celestri, the faceless △, Prince de Takicardie, Tundramane & Ko$te, Solar Alliance and shampoo.

A staple element of the Lowlife Cartel bunch, Saverio Celestri paves the way and dishes out one of his signature jagged, EBM-informed weapons in “Sundays”. Through this hotchpotch of acid-steeped bass entangled with a frantic newbeat-ish swing and razor-sharp synthwaves, the Italian producer shows off the raw and playful facets of his craft to optimal effect. Unknown contributor △ clocks in with “Crachats de Lune”, a proper ominous banger going straight for the jugular with its clever mix of dusty, drum-laden churn, processed vox stabs and sci-fi-indebted laser bursts flashing by unrelentingly. Tailored for hi-octane action at the defunct Boccaccio or Hacienda, Prince de Takicardie “Jam’on’Acid (House Mix)” blows the winds of euphoria across the club like it was done in 1995. Vibing to a pulsating mix of rabid snares, 303-vehicled charges and mangled vocal samples on a classic free rave tip, throwback material that packs a punch.

Flip it over and here is North-American duo Tundramane & Ko$te shifting the scope to Memphis chopped-and-screwed in true hardcore fashion. Straight-out aggression, “Brick To The Face” lives up to its title, so expect leaving the place with a few teeth out your mouth and a good concussion, though more side effects could appear over repeated listens. A radical U-turn from the previous, Ute.-related triplet Solar Alliance - alias Ekkel, Oprofessionell and Mikkel Rev - bring their dashing trance touch to the comp with “Quest for Kiba”, an uptempo maelstrom for the senses, swirling and whirling up until space and time make no damn sense any more. Topping off that versatile tour de force, producer shampoo adds his delectably sensuous spin on the record with the lush, sample-heavy lo-fi appeal of “四季ノ歌”. Unpolished feelgood vibes, sun-streaked soulfulness and deft-handed MPC wizardry are on the menu for this ultimate ride and jolly finale.

Next up in our mix series is Zitto & Zurkin, two central figures and cornerstones in the Tbilisi-scene. Zitto is a resident at Bassiani, and is turning into one of the most intriguing figures for the local clubbing sphere, with his level of selection and world building. Zurkin is another central figure of the Tbilisi community, being the co-founder of Vodkast Records, both an imprint and Tbilisi vinyl oasis for fervid record lovers.

In this episode we are presenting a marathon live recording of their closing set from Bassiani, January 27th. Dive into this 9,5 hour ride, where they navigate between trance and psychedelic techno from the past three decades. Steering seamlessly through rolling chuggers, trippy euphoria and wormhole trance, Zitto and Zurkin are a truly fruitful symbiosis.

We often find there are two types of artists. One internalises their process, endlessly perfecting their work while finding the endpoint a massive hurdle, and in turn producing immaculate yet very little art. The other is continuously inspired, so full of ideas they can barely work fast enough to articulate them all. The art becomes by-product of their larger trajectory and not just a collection of endpoints. Lord Of The Isles a.k.a. Neil McDonald seems to be both. He’s always in an evolving state of process where work is constantly shed to make way for a new layer growing beneath, yet he holds his cards closely, cherry-picking when and with whom he releases that work into the world.
Neil is simply prolific. In 2016 he shared with us a vast catalog of unheard beauty, which over a long span of time was collaboratively shaped into his debut album 'In Waves'. In the span between the album release and now, Neil has performed on a number of ESP Institute label showcases from Los Angeles to Amsterdam to Berlin, and released a few efforts with our peers, but all throughout he’s been holed up working on his sophomore album [sigh]. Though patience has become a sort of meditation during this global upside-down, we couldn’t help but squeeze out an interim release to uphold the fantasy. So, four years after the release of 'In Waves', we’re proud to present a very long-winded follow-up single for the album’s monster track 'Skylark'. Accompanied by a previously unreleased album cut entitled 'OmniMulti', the single also touts two glorious remixes; a sunkissed version by fellow esteemed Scotsman Linkwood and an atmospheric dismantling by the Melbourne hopeful Tourist Kid. You see, good things come to those who wait.

Ran by Karima F and visual artist Ida Ekblad, Oslo-based Schloss Records is not only a record label but also an art gallery. With each release sporting grandiose aesthetics from Ida, as a platform Schloss continues to catch both eyes and ears in equal measure.

Their next offering comes from Mr. Timothy Crombie, most commonly known as A Psychic Yes. Entitled ' That Swamp Feeling', the EP features Bristol's Hodge on the remix.

Whilst the original brims with raw drum patterns and steel pan melody, Hodge brightens up the arrangement filling space with airy synth tones and his well-known preference for Jurassic wildlife samples.

Following the devastating explosion at the Port of Beirut on August 4, Ma3azef teamed up with New York-based mastering engineer Heba Kadry to curate a compilation by regional and international musicians to raise funds for the continuous relief work being done on the ground in Beirut to help those who have been failed by the Lebanese state.

Today, we're happy to announce two additional remixes to be added to the compilation: ZULI's Kiwii, remixed by El Kontessa; Deena Abdelwahed's Wein El Malayeen, remixed  by Ancient Methods.

The 19-track compilation includes contributions by the likes of Fatima Al Qadiri, Nicolás Jaar, ZULI, Slikback, and others. Bringing sounds together from the different crevices of electronic music, it is a humble attempt to galvanize musicians and listeners into supporting a city that has been integral in shaping the region’s contemporary music scene.

All proceeds from the sales of the compilation are going to local initiatives to provide assistance to those affected, they will be divided between Fundraising Campaign for the Arts and Culture Community in Beirut organized by AFAC; Beirut Musicians' Fund organized by Tunefork Studios, and Beit el Baraka.
