"This mix is a crystalization of many of the experiences that I had in 2023 experiences DJing, dancing, listening, and living. 
I also kept in mind my upcoming performance at Acquario in January when making the mix. 

2023 is coming to an end and 2024 is just beginning, giving me the feeling that each year like a circle that comes around and around again. However, even though we may find ourselves back where we started, there are always many journeys and experiences in between these points - this idea is also something I have tried to incorporate in this mix. See you again on the next trip around the sun."

Hailing from Tokyo, DJ MARIA. has been making waves with her finely engineered mixes and exquisite selections, as much as a few head-turning productions for the likes of Katharsis and Proxima. Close to the original 90s atmospheric techno vibe, her approach shares that taste for spaciousness and sense-awakening uplift, fitting in nicely in the tradition of dub techno whilst opening onto more ambient-oid detours and further leftfield-friendly electronics. Delving in the essence of techno as a tool for emancipation, her mixes traverse a wealth of landscapes and territories, never quite sitting cozy but roaming in search of new forms to embrace, new geometries to integrate. A musical language in constant motion, where expectations wash up against the beauty of revelation.

"You can get deeply lost in the darkness if you let yourself merge with it and not fight it.” With this statement, Denise Rabe vividly encapsulates her musical philosophy. As this episode of DYSTOPIA exhibits, her sound is less a musical form than a collection of sounds generating a tense, haunting atmosphere. Rabe's methods and ideas show with total clarity how darkness, what our society incorrectly perceives as negative, is in fact an opening onto a radically liberated world of abstract forces. In this episode I seek to define the meaning of darkness in techno and Denise also shares her thoughts with us about Berghain, the role of gender within the techno scene, how her personal philosophy is expressed through her music, as well as the fortuitous synergy between her name and the spirit of her music. DYSTOPIA 003: DENISE RABE

Portuguese DJ and producer Lewis Fautzi has steadily risen from the quiet town of Barcelos to the forefront of the global techno scene. His trajectory has been nothing short of interstellar; launching with early releases on Portugal’s Soniculture, and quickly becoming a fixture on genre-defining labels like Soma, PoleGroup, Figure, Warm Up, and his own Faut Section.

His debut album The Gare Album, named after the Porto club that helped shape his artistic vision, was a bold opening statement: raw, precise, and deeply personal. A year later, Space Exploration pushed further; revealing his appetite for ambient experimentation. 

Across his discography and throughout his DJ sets, Fautzi blends dense atmospheres with magnetic, machine-like rhythms; building a sound that feels as mechanical as it is alive.

 A true craftsman of deep space sonics, he channels the gravity of the cosmos into #254: tense, immersive and unrelenting. This is Lewis Fautzi at full force.

This is one of my most-requested live recordings in a while! For 4 days at Fusion, ~80,000 people grow a tail and run free in the German forest. It’s what happens when uncompromising art collides with anti-capitalistic freedom. I was invited to play on Saturday night from 2:30am-4:30am on Fusions biggest stage, Turmbühne. Soundtracked by heavy, intense psychedelia, this is a story of moving everybody from the darkest hour straight into sunrise. I wanted to push people’s limits, but I also wanted it to be fun. Thank you to those still standing and especially to the Fusion crew.
